How does falling an outstretched arm cause an anterior shoulder dislocation? It would make more sense for it to be a posterior dislocation given the vector and momentum of the force. Its been bothering me lol

Combination of abduction, external rotation, and extension cause the humeral head to move anterior and put stress on anterior capsule/stabilisers.

Posterior dislocation is caused by locked elbows pushing against heavy weight, causing humeral head to translate posterior and pushing against posterior capsule. Linemen and bench pressers.

Also a couple interesting tidbits that people like to pimp on. Seizures and electrocution have increased rates of posterior shoulder dislocation.

Had a poor patient who was on bupropion for depression and then was put on baclofen by PCP for muscle spasms, and ended up having a seizure and bilateral shoulder dislocations. It was rough. First seizure ever.
