My GP friend and I were debating: What antidepressant has the least sedating/anticholinergic side effect profile? Mirtazapine? Paroxetine? And if you could cite a basis, that would be great for our peace of mind...thanks : )

Mirtazipine is among the most sedating of antidepressants, and paroxetine is the most anticholinergic (and also for many pts one of the more sedating) of the SSRIs.

Lexapro and Prozac are probably the least sedating SSRIs, and there's always Wellbutrin ("Ritalin lite").

Thanks! Haha... This is why I would choose another field over psychiatry...Psych drugs are just oh so confusing... Alien world.

Generic fluoxetine, citalopram, and paroxetine are all $4 a month at Target and Walmart.
If you want to keep your patients on meds, it's hard to beat that where cost is an issue.
