Any Advice for New EM interns-to-be??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
for the cost conscious who won't mind a scratch or two that will be on them by the end of your first shift anyway, try danskooutlet.com sometimes you can find better prices elsewhere on the net, sometimes not.

Let me chime in with a vote for the Danskos. I've had the Mens Professional model with the closed heel for about a month. I wish I'd had them last year during my countless hours in the OR retracting.

Make sure they fit right -- they're supposed to be very loose and not touch your heal. Try them on at an authorized retailer to get the size right. They take a couple of days to get used to, but your feet will thank you. The only problem I have is that I've nearly sprained my ankle several times, I guess because of the tall heel. They're definitely not a good shoe for running down the hallway.

I second the ankle-sprain issue. After a week or so that usually goes away, but I have been wearing mine for over a year and still will roll my ankle every once in a while. They add about 2 inches to your height. So for those of you who are vertically challenged, these are for you.

Major derailment guys. This thread was really doing it for me, then, enter dansko. Any more non-footwear more advice to give?

Thanks!! I was about to try and redirect the conversation too. I think we've got the feet covered. 🙂

Don't like Rivers. I am not an outline learner. Best thing to do is find a bookstore that has a good medical book text supply.. (theres a B&N here in manhattan that is very nice... 😉) and go look through a bunch. You have to pick a style that you like. Don't forget online resources. You can lean a ton this way without shelling out a ton of money for books. Especially if you aren't going to read them.

I like question books.
