Hi everyone!
Finally, my GPA was verified today, and I am hoping that my application will be sent tomorrow! (Lucky 7 Batch).
Surfing through the forum, though, I do not see many people who are applying in August. I feel that starting a thread for these semi-late applicants would help (sharing their stats, designated schools, and interview dates, etc).

One good thing about applying in August was that GPA verification took only 5 days!!
(Best thing if you do not like a long wait time) 😍

You are not a late applicant...you are considered "on time".
When I talked to an adcom from UCSF he said even late July is still considered "relatively early" for some schools.

The more time I spend on this forum the more I realize this "rolling admission" stuff is not true. It looks like schools interview ppl with 3.6+ stats first ( no matter what batch you are from, 1 or 5. These ppl get Sept and Aug interviews ) and then they make their way down to ppl with lower stat for Oct and Nov , spring interviews.

At least that's what I have noticed from ppl's posts.

Rolling admissions is VERY much alive.

I feel this rolling admission is kind of unfair.
I think the US schools are the only ones that go by this admission process.
For example, let's say you have recently decided to go for dentistry and it is already in the middle of December.. Putting an applicant with a strong will at disadvantage just because he applies late seems nonsensical to me. (but i understand this makes life much easier for d school adcoms)

Well , I am in no position to say I am definitely right but as a scientist in training I look for trends and that's what I saw with a couple of schools . I could be wrong though.

Things are different in Canada , I know . But can you really compare somebody who thought this though and prepared his/her application early ( talked to profs, wrote and polished his PS, etc ) to somebody who just puts an application together in December and basically has the mindset of " well I will just apply and see what happens, if this doesn't work I will apply to med/opto/pharm .... " !! I'd say the first person is more desciplined , organized and has a better mind set and is more dedicated to the profession than the second person. Just my thoughts .

Hey! I am also on the same wagon and it looks like our application will be sent out tomorrow!
I still have my official report for the DAT scores to be updated and hoping it will also get taken care of sooner or later since it only took them just 4 days to verify my GPA. It does definitely feel great not having to wait for so long like earlier batchers did. How many schools did you apply to and have you gotten any response from any of them? So far I got my supplemental from BU which I thought was pretty odd considering they did not even have the chance to see my GPA at the time I got their e-mail.

I may be biased because I'm also an august applicant, but I feel like we are not "late" at all. Everyone on SDN just freaks out about having to get the slight advantage of applying before everyone else, giving the impression that if you aren't batch 1, you're late. 😉

It would be more unfair if people who were prepared before the cycle started were to be treated the same as someone that "just decided to go into dentistry". Most people that "just decided" apply the following year after they have sufficient shadowing experience and really know that they want to be dentists.

I would imagine it would be hard to define what "just decided" really is.
Of course, one can't simply prepare for dental school in a week, but just because someone prepared his application for the past 3 years does not necessarily make him a better applicant than a person who did the same in one year.

Don't worry you are not late. Applying before the end of August is generally considered early from various sources.

Yes. I received the info on secondary application from BU too.
I think as soon as you pay your fee, each dental school is informed of your interest and thus sends you an email..

My app is going out tomorrow and all of my supplementals are in. In no way do I feel..."late". My GPA verification took 2 days. It wasn't really possible for me to be earlier and it's freaking August. Very much mid-cycle. When I made my dental school plan last summer I knew even then I'd be a later batch applicant, so I asked around and read up. It's fine guys. Breathe easy. We will get there. 😎

If 1 year of preparation is your idea of "just decided" then your perception of time is faulty...
I agree that there isn't a difference between someone who "always knew dentistry was his life long goal" and someone who decided a year prior to applying. Once you are committed, you are committed, no matter how much longer someone else wanted to be a dentist before the other person. Hell, I only prepared for a year. But your original statement made it sound like someone who applied early June should be treated the same as someone who applied in December.

By definition, rolling admissions pretty much starts after the first group receives admission notification and spots are created by those who turned down their acceptance to seek fortunes elsewhere or the number of admission notifications is less than the class size. That would be around January. Rolling admission seems to be confused with "rolling interview notification", which may be something mythical or just wishful thinking.
