Hi Guys,
As usual, I need some advice. I've always enjoyed biology ( or at least I thought ) until I got to college. I just finished my first year as a Bio major. I think I'm much more interested in the human body rather than zoology and botany part of it which we got a lot of in intro 🙄 . I'm thinking about either totally switching or double majoring in psychology. Since I'm still very interested in research, genetics, anatomy, physiology, and immunology stuff do you think I should double major? Will it take me a lot longer or anything? Hopefully some of you out there can relate! Thanks!

I finished my bio/psych double major from Berkeley in 4 years (no summer classes in between) and 1 summer class after my final semester. Had I planned my schedule better (I decided to add the psych major during my junior year), I would've finished in 4 years easily. One thing I liked about the double major is that there's some overlap between the two majors, so that actually makes things more interesting.

ROCKet_gurly-
I am basically in the same boat as you. I thought I loved biology until I made my way through bio I and II this year. Now, I am contemplating changing my major too, but to biochemistry instead. So, I offer no advice on double majoring in bio/psych, but I just wanted to wish you the best of luck in making your decision.

EVERYONE cant change to biochem!! Then we wouldnt be the prestigious minority anymore!

I did Biology and Psychology right from second year. I did it because I enjoyed both, and my school offers a combined honours program. I'm now graduating with a BSc in Life Sciences, instead, after 3 years because I got into medical school (Some Canadian schools have 3 year programs). At my school, Bio & Psych takes 4 years, like other programs, but you don't get as many electives because you have to take courses in both biology and psychology. You also have write a thesis in either Biology or Psychology in 4th year. I loved the program, but I would advice you to do it only if you love both courses.

ROCKet_gurly, from the interests listed in your post, I can't tell whether you have any interest in Psychology. But if you don't, don't do the double major. Ironically, I found that my psychology courses were often harder than my biology courses. And don't worry about taking botany and stuff. You get more choices in 3rd year. I got to do immunology, histology, vertebrate anatomy (we actually dissected) in my third year. It gets even better in 4th year.

Thanks guys! Oh, I do have an interest in Psychology. All I've had of psychology was in high school, so I've decided to take a few classes in it in college and make sure its still as interesting to me. Thanks again!
