I was just wondering if there were any Purdue graduates that went to dental school. I wanted to know about your experiance and what you all did to get in. I took a different route than most people going into professional school. Am I the only boilermaker?

For the sake of competent discussion on this board, I hope that no one else replies to this thread. Go Hoosiers!

I'm here with you grinnin, but I don't think there's many of us boilermakers here on SDN (at least not in the dental forum).

I'm going to be applying in May 05 to start dental school in Fall of 06 and I will be graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree in May 06. So I'm not sure how different of a route you are taking, but I don't consider my ME degree too traditional either.

Have you been to any of the pre-dental club meetings here at Purdue. We went down to IUSD dental day a few months ago. I know of several people through that club that have applied this cycle.

Hey Zurik, I am with you...go IU. Too bad every team this year sucks!!!!! Ahh the memories of yesteryear (2002 national champion runner up ncaa basketball). Purdue people can talk a lot of smack about IU. Athletics just isnt what it used to be (at least lately). Plus that beating they put down on us in football...ouch. Anyway, grinningrice...theres a girl in my classes (redhead) who went to Purdue. Her and I both are in grad classes together at a school in Chicago. I think she was a typical health science major (pre-med/dental/etc). Anyway, I will tell her to respond. She graduated in 2003.

Awesome! Thanks!
PS
Boo IU! At least we have a more creative name than "hoosier", the whole ****ing state is full of hoosiers that have nothing to do with IU, way to be creative;-)

Yeah, I definitely bleed black and gold. I just graduated in May of 2004 with a health sciences major and a minor in psychology. I am still trying to get into dental school--so I really couldn't offer you any advice of how to get in seeing that I am still trying to figure that out for myself. Hopefully some school will take me 😳

I'm not a boilermaker...but i've always been a fan of their teams...boilermakers just has a nice ring to it. (but not as good as a bruin though hehehe...) neways...if you guys need any advice about gettting in or info about temple i'm happy to answer any ?'s. ^_^

I'm kinda an unconventional applicant...chemical engineer major...however, I've known I wanted to do dentistry since my freshman year of college (now a junior applying this June or whenever the hell they open, I'll be one of the first to fill the app out). And as for you grinningrice, I'm still waiting for my dinner with you...you're beautiful! 😍

haha and oh yeah, I didn't know what a boilermaker was until post-post anxiety set in...::sigh::...

Yes, I would love some advice on getting in!!! I had an interview there on Dec. 1st and loved the school. I really liked how much the school focused on clinicals. I want to be well prepared when I get out in the "real world." Anyways, any advice to help me out? I would really appreciate it!!

lol, i don't go to purdue, i attend university of florida. and its okay, i have a girlfriend hehe...

hey redhead...
if you wanna pm me with any specific questions/your stats/ etc...maybe i can help you better. the fact that you got an interview is already a very good sign....^_^

My younger brother is a boilermaker. I'm still trying to convince him to go to dental school, but he says I traumatized him from the cleanings I used to give him in dental school. Hey, it's not my fault if he doesn't brush properly or floss!

Any suggestions for popular boilermaker athletic apparel that would make a good birthday/holiday gift from my end? Something that I could order online that's popular on campus would be ideal. Keep me posted!

A awesome gift would be a HArry's Chocolate shop Go Ugly Early sweater. Usually, any sweater is pretty good, but thats a classic.

What you should do after you interview, is to email your interviewers with thank you letters and tell them that the school is your number one choice. They will keep this in mind when they are on the comittee decieding if you get in or not.

Its funny, Brian actually told my group to do that, he also told us to email him about how we love Temple and that he would put that in our record for us. Brian rules!

BOILER THE **** UP!!!!!!!!

Bwhahaha, fellow boilermaker here too. I already applied and got my acceptance to IU about 2 weeks ago. I'm still waiting on Mich and Marq. Those are my top 3 choices. I live dab smack in the middle between Indianpolis, Milwaukee and Ann Arbor. I'm a bit non-traditional too. I'm a Computer Technology major but realized I hated it at the end of my junior year.

Bryan and Grinningrice (and anyone else if they wanna drive to West Lafayette and hang out, you can crash at my place), we should meet up one time and have a beer in the spring or something. Finals week kinda blows and I"m sure you're all busy, but maybe later.

Purdue has like almost no pre-professionals it seems like, except for like pre-pharm students. It'd be nice to meet some fellow predents.

I know! I feel so alone, so when I see a predent I freak out and get really excited. Congrats on getting in one of your top three! I got into Case and its among my top four, Im waiting on UIC, Marg, and Temple. Sadly, I will not be able to go to the bars my last year in college. Im only 20, and I wont be 21 till late June 🙁

Did you go to UCLA by any chance? I'll never forgive them for stealing John Wooden from us.
