Hi everyone,

I just wanted to get some insight from a Canadian student currently applying or someone currently in a DO school. I will be applying for the next cycle (re-taking some courses) and any tips would be helpful! Also if you don't mind sharing your stats, just so I have an idea of what is realistic, that would be great.

Also, from my understanding Canadian and US students are measured by the same GPA/MCAT standards. However, why is it that only so few Canadians get accepted? Is it simply due to seats available or that not many apply?

Thanks

Hello drvfedorov. It's always good to see fellow Canadians here.
For your question, it's not the same for us; I believe it requires higher grade for international students to get accepted regardless of whether it's DO or MD.

Hey alex, thanks for your reply. Is that just your opinion or have you seen these facts somewhere? I have the same opinion as well, but I have yet to find any statistics for canadians/international students. I know that MSU-COM has the Canadian initiative, but thats about it.

Few Canadians get accepted because we are considered international students. American schools (like Canadian schools) only have a very limited number of seats for international students. So with fewer seats comes greater competition and requiring higher stats.

Is there any data that shows the number of international seats available by school and they stats?

Go buy MSAR and check each school you want to know about.
Many medical schools accept none if any. Find schools that accept more than 3 international students; they should be our goal.

these are all the CAD friendly schools I have found and their stats, (correct me if I am wrong)

from 2012-2015: 0.2 to 0.3 increase in GPA, thus from 2015-2018 assuming same increase:
so if applying 2018: averages increase 0.2 + 0.2 for being CAD (overestimation?); c/sGPA 3.86/3.76
