If you're a Canadian student and got accepted to the dental schools in the states this year, please post your stats and the schools you got accepted to. Thanks.

I was accepted to a US medical school this year:

School: FUHS/CMS

My Stats: 3.55 GPA and 31O MCAT

A friend of mine (also a Canadian) was accepted to a NY dental school 2 years ago.... her GPA was around a 3.00, all I know about the school was that it was mega expensive....

Good Luck

yes the mega expensive one is NYU it costs about 300 k American, or 380 k Canadian, it's expensive but she'll make up her debt within 3 or 4 years of graduation and still have enough for other luxuries.

Hey,

I'm from Ontario and was accepted at UPitt for the class of 2007.

My stats are:

BCP and science: 3.45~
non-science: 3.7

Canadian DAT: 19 on bio, chem, reading
20 carving
17 PAT

I also had tons of experience in the dental/health fields.

good luck!

I wouldn't count on that. Many seasoned dentists I've talked to in the Vancouver area also have reservations about spending so much money. It's doable, but you won't be having any luxuries for long time to come. Just think about all the other basic stuff one needs to get after graduation- house (at least 500kCND in Vancouver, Toronto), car, furniture, etc.

Also most people tell me starting associate wage is in the 70k range, so saying she'll be paying that debt off in 3-4 years is ludicrous unless her parents have a practice she can jump right into.

LestatZinnie,

I think you have to realize that anything is possible. Maybe 3-4 years out of debt is a stretch, but than again, your idea of a 'long time' to come seems a bit of a stretch too since you don't know where the person is coming from or where they may take their career in the future. Using a few dentist's opinions in BC is far from credible and I think you should have a more positive attitude toward other Canadians persuing the exact profession as yourself.

You're at McGill right? And I congratulate you. Yes, you are paying much less than I am paying to go to UPitt, but money isn't everything, which unfortunately it seems that it is for you. What counts the most is that Canadian students are entering a profession that they have hoped to be a part of for a long time, and whatever way they go about it does not determine what kind of future they will have. I know MANY Canadian dentists who have studied in the US, and they are very successful financially and personally.

Things aren't so black and white and I hope you can one day realize that.

300K is absurd. Money isn't everything...until you have to pay it back. The people who use the excuse "as long as I'm doing what I want to do" will have a nice dose of reality in the not so distant future. Money management is a key asset to any business professional and dentistry is no exception. Let's see, 100K at a state school...or 300K at a private school...and both produce the same result.

helllooooo My fellow Canadians,

Am from vancouver and I will be going to Case western this August 2004 yupppyyyyyyyyyy, am extremely happy... am I gonna have a huge debt, yes indeed.... but having the security of a great job that I like that pays really good is the best thing in the world...

In addition, canadians who study in the US have the advantage of getting an associate job in the US which will help pay the debt faster... worst case senario 3-4 years behind people who went to canadian schools but at the end we will all be in the profession that we love I hope 😀

my Stat 😎

GPA 3.3
science 3.1

DAT
carving 24
biology 19
Chemistry 21
PAT 18
English 15 😀

Tons of shadowing and volunteer experience
travelled and lived internationally
volunteer mission to mexico

I am glad we are all making it happen
Canadians rocks !!

Good Luck all

HAPPY NEW Year

i agree with you that one can be successful no matter where one goes and I'm not discouraging or disparaging anyone from pursuing studies in expensive schools. I'd just like to point out that paying back the debt is not a walk in the park as many posters believe. Dentistry is a personally and financially awarding profession, but by no means is it winning a lottery as many who have the "doesn't matter how much i'm paying cuz i'm gonna make it all back" mentality thinks. just mho.

Agreed. Did you know that our little brother, Canada, has never had a girlfriend, and still wets the bed?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! LOL! ROTFLMAO....

Hey Mr. G,

thanks for the laugh. Currently we're studying neuro and embryo, and I needed a good laugh.

This is absurd! Anyway, I found my undergrad education in Canada more difficult than dental school in the US!

I'm relatively new to the forum but I must say I love Dr. Rob....

anyways, I have many Canadian friends (uh, 5 or so), and indeed they all say that school there is much more difficult...just my two cents, eh.

G,

you're sarcasm hits a little too close to home....sadly, you're right.
So, will you (and any others) be my friend?
