do I have any chances?
I have my app ready but I thought I should retake my DAT. is it too late if I want to try and apply to 3-4 schools? if no which schools do you recommend?

you have to retake unfortunately.... and apply to more than 3-4 schools.

If you have AA and TS 24 then you can apply to 3-4 schools..

But not with borderline cutoff scores.

good luck..

If your GPA is a 3.5, and you have a masters (what GPA in that?), your academics look good from that standpoint. Assuming your other GPAs are around 3.5, you definitely have a chance with an 18AA, 19TS.

You will be cutoff for RC at SOME schools, so you need to find out which ones (Tufts, Indiana, ect....). However, many schools will overlook cutoffs if they like they rest of your app. I was worried about cutoffs too, because it seemed everyone was telling me it was 17 on each section....well, I'm still searching for a school with that criteria (in other words it's bogus, SOME schools have cutoffs, but they're not 17 on each section like some claim). You have to check with the schools you're applying to know for sure. Do apply to more than 4 schools, though; probably 15 would be good.

If you don't get in this year, you can re-take the DAT to become more competitive for next cycle.

You have average stats for a good portion of dental schools...but you are applying very late in the cycle now...soooooo.....

First, buy the ADEA Dental School Bible...aka the admissions book for pre-dental students. If you don't want to pay what is a measly $40 for the book your pre-health advisor should have one. This will save you lots of $$$$ and time. DO RESEARCH on schools!!!!!!

Make your own logical decisions instead of posting on a random message board filled with people who do not know you...however if you would like a few options read below:

Next you can do one of three things:

1)After researching all ~55 schools apply to the ones that fit your stats the best. This should leave you with around 15-20 schools that are instate or OOS friendly (NYU, Tufts etc.). Bite the bullet and pay around $2000 plus supplemental fees and hope for the best. Its late and you MAY land some interviews...key word maybe...

2)After doing your research narrow your field to around 10-15 schools and call each one and explain your stats etc. They may tell you that you have no chance or say send it on over. This may leave you with 4-5 schools and save you lots of money but also limit your chances by not shotgunning the nation with your application.

3) Retake the DAT, bolster your application and apply with confidence next year.

Obviously you can do all of these and be successful...it just depends where you are financially and if you can wait a year. Honestly, I would wait because by getting a better DAT and application you may get into a school of choice, or instate college versus an expensive out of state that has lower average stats which could cost you $500,000 when its all said and done.

Good luck!!
