Greetings,

I am currently preparing my application for this cycle and would like to obtain some advice on my chances.

Graduate from a UC School:
Major: Physiology and Neuroscience
Minor: Marine Science
cGPA: 3.32
sGPA: 3.35

Post-bacc program:
cGPA: 3.84 over 169 units

MCATs:
1st try: 19Q (holy crap I know I sucked! 😳)
2nd try: 25M
3rd try: 29M (10 VR - 8 PS - 11 BS)
I didn't get much improvement on my last test. But I really don't want to retake it again 🙁

EC + Experience:
Marine Science Researchers @ University of Queensland, Australia for 3 months
Ophthalmic Intern, work closely with ophthalmologist MD - 6 Months FT
Ophthalmic Technician - 6 Months FT, with clinical research experience
1x scientific publication in Journal of Refractive Surgery, 2 more WIP
2 times volunteer for Remote California Medical Vision
Involved in a student-run club during post-bacc but nothing much to brag about
Some misc. volunteering experience back in high school

My stats are far from decent, especially my MCAT which hurt like a kidney stone. As a CA resident I would like to remain within CA but the chances of getting into UC are quite slim. I think DO would be my best bet but I would really like to try for a MD. I would appreciate any opinions and advice. Thanks!

Very low chances for MD if you are not an URM. Great chances at DO.

What are your overall undergrad cGPA and BCPM including all college and post bac grades?

Apply early. As in, you need to have everything submitted by June 15th at the latest. Apply broadly.

So wait, you took 169 credit hours with 3.84 and your overall GPA went up .04. That is mind boggling.

You post-bac might actually give you a shot at MD, if they dont merge your post bacc with your undergrad. Was it a masters type program or just an informal post bac?

I apologize, it was 169 GPA credits (44 units/credit hours). It was a 1-year formal post bacc program, not a master. I took a look around the forum and comes to conclusion that my MCAT really hurt my chances.

Does the postbac program have a linkage to a med school? What are the program's stats with regards to getting alums into MD schools (if they separate their stats by MD vs DO acceptances)?

Wayne could be a good school for you to apply to, as high grades for the last ~30+ hours are most regarded, and since your MCAT isn't too far off their matriculant average.
