Any current Creighton students out there???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Currently a D2, ask at will.

Sandman,

Great--basically I'm looking for your honest opinion/comments about Creighton.

What was your overall impression of the school--particularly the student/faculty relationships? Also, what about the facilities and technology? How would you rate that area? Does the school have a Sim Lab?

Overall is it a good learning environment?

For you personally, did you find the first year extremely difficult??? What about others?

Is the daily schedule pretty much 8-5 everyday?

Any idea if they are ever going to let you take the National Boards Part I after the first year like a few schools are starting to do?

Do you go summers?

We'll start with these questions and go from there. ANY insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

Okay, I got one person's opinion--which really makes me wonder.

Any other students out there? Or anyone heard things about Creighton--good or bad???

Alright, easy there gunner, the reason you're probably not getting many replys is that these boards are kindof saturated with costal dental students who have a collective GPA of like 3.9 and DAT scores of 23 and above. At least that was the way it was when I was scouring the site before I made up my mind to go to Creighton. Most Dental Students are pretty busy and likely not reading threads or willing to help out. That being said, I couldn't be happier with my choice to attend Creighton. And I can't think of anyone in may class that would say otherwise. That means a lot.

The faculty out of their way to help you out with anything you need help with. As an example, some of us wanted to dissect the leg of a cadaver as that wasn't a part of our normal curriculum, and dental students are just a little weird like that. The anatomy instructor came in on a Saturday for 4 or 5 hours and went over it with us. Another, several of us are having a friendly bet as to who can lose the most weight prior to spring break, also a little weird, but I need the motivation, the histology teacher set out and found skin fat calipers and an electrical fat calculator and is determining the winner. These things have nothing to do with Dental School, but what I'm trying to get across is that as far as faculty go, the teachers are there to go the extra mile for you.

Building is fairly new, technology is up to par. There are no flashy labs like they have at BU. I saw the sophomore lab, it rocks. But do you know what they told me at BU? They have an almost impossible time of finding real patients for you when you're down in the clinic. The interviewer told me sometimes students didn't have enough proceedures to graduate on time. What is that all about. Million dollar sims labs, yet no patients.

Creighton doesn't have that problem, you'll have more than enough patients and because there are no specialists to steal your patients you can and will do proceedures that you never would have otherwise been able to. Implants, impacted Wisdom teeth, oral surgery, etc.

The first year was difficult, it's supposed to be. Some had it easier than others, I thought it was fine once I got the hang of it.
I'm loving sophomore year, more labs more dentistry, more hands on.

Basically an 8-5, a lot of afternoons you have off, sometimes extended lunches, if you're good at lab you have more free time.

Area is good, Omaha is a fun town, no problems finding things to do, there are always people in class going out.

Doubtful on it going to a first year Part 1, I wouldn't want to do it if I had the choice. That's the last thing I'd want to add to freshman year.

Off for around a month at Christmas, 3.5 months b/w D1 and D2, 1 month between D2-D3.

Overall I'm sure you'd be happy here. Set up an interview on a Friday and see it.

Thanks sandman. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I'm glad you like it there. I've heard mixed reviews.
