Hello all,
Ive been consistently visiting this forum as I am looking forward to applying to DPT school. I have been practicing as a PTA since 2010. I make well over 70,000/yr not factoring in PRN work and all. I have read so many negative things from students not licensed clinicians about PTAs which is totally wrong. Anywho I have a BS in healthcare management and working on two pre-reqs just Chem and Physics. I absolutely enjoy being a PTA but feel limited. We are very knowledgeable clinicians but limited by our scope of practice. Some therapists and those that are completely out of touch with PT usually discredit PTA's. I have come across excellent PTA's (Even better and more knowledgeable than some PT's as well as some really horrible PTA's and some PT's alike. I just want to have the ability to see my patients through from beginning of care to the end of care without limitations.I haven't seen too many PTA's on the board but if ya'll are around I would like to hear from you. I hope to be admitted into a good program. My stats are as follows:
Cum GPA: BS 3.5, A.A.S. PTA, 3.7
Pre-reqs GPA: Between 2.8-3.0 thus far
GRE's: pending will take next week
PT experience: >3000 hours as a licensed clinician working in poly trauma facilities, acute care hospitals, SNF's, ALF, Outpatient PT, Aquatic PT, and age group ranging from per-geriatrics.
Extra Curricular activies: church leader and founder of my own organization to provide DME's to less fortunate in Africa
Designated schools: UMB, U Pitt, UTHSCSA, and Shenandoah
Have been corresponding rather frequently with these schools but just want to hear from anyone in my situation or know of any PTAs going DPT!
