Anyone know of ANY dental schools that might accept a 49 year old nurse? I have the financing in place if I could just find a school that would take me. I have not yet applied because I wanted to find out which schools might be the most receptive. Any help is kindly appreciated. :xf:
On the same note, which dental schools have the highest acceptance rate? Thanks again!

Absolutely they have accepted 'older 40+ students'. Have you gone to any d-school's websites? Many generally have that information. otherwise you should either buy an ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools, as this will have all of the information you need, orrrr call some of the schools up that you are interested in, ask them, and get a definitive answer.

P.S. Wouldnt it be considered discrimination if they didn't?

They do accept non-trads, but do not expect to get into dental school based on your age alone. You have to be just as competitive as the rest of the applicants. I am 44 and only received one interview last cycle where I was waitlisted.

A lot of schools accept non-trads in their 40's. I know of one case where someone was in their early 50's. So, you do still have hope!

You guys this is awesome. I am so happy to hear you want to be dentists and are not letting age hold you back! YOU ARE NOT OLD! This is great! I hope you all get in!

Hi dental nurse to be 😀 buy the guide to dental schools and take a look at the age range--not the average....I have noticed since 2004 that Harvard average is usually in the 20's for example....I'm not applying there of course, but just an example. Schools should not discriminate against your age....

Jaypea65 hit the nail on the head. I was a little worried about age myself (I'm 30 right now). I checked with a couple of dental schools and they assured me that age was not a factor. But you still have to have a decent GPA/DAT score.

While your age may not be a factor, the age of your credits/degree may be. So check with the dent schools and make sure they will accept your credits.

Good luck!

I agree with checking with the schools to make sure the school will accept the credits. My prereqs were at least 10 years old and as old as 14 years when I applied. No school that I applied to mentioned anything about how long it had been since I took the courses and each of them sent a letter of acceptance in Dec that year. There are some school that do state the credits have to be within a certain timeframe, but there are many others that do not!

We have a 40-something in my class, he's awesome. It's definitely do-able! I would think the biggest hurdle is the pre-req's, DAT, etc. Ditto on calling the schools you are interested in. Good luck!
