What he said is right on the money. I am a CA-1 at Dartmouth & have another DO (CCOM) in my class. 2 DOs just finished here last year. Dartmouth has no hesitations &, in fact - excepting surgery, DOs are in all of our residencies. Even better, DOs comprise a higher percentage of fellowships here than we do in the residencies.
Do not let anyone tell you that being a DO will impair your ability to match into a top-notch/elite anesth program. Anyone claiming such is misinformed or is using that as a cheap excuse for not having the gumption to try themselves, in my honest opinion. However, do not interpret my comments as saying it is easy to land a spot in a top gas program - it is not & it is getting more competitive every year. Only you can gauge how earnestly competitive you are, but do not let "DO" play a role in choosing programs.
