I received my secondary for GW this week. GW is probably my top choice at this time and I just wanted feedback from those who are currently students. Are you happy at GW? And if so, why (i.e. volunteer organizations, resources, technology, faculty)? I know I could half-ass the secondary and make up a few reasons but I genuinely want to know your thoughts. Also, do ou know if they have a focused geriatric internal medicine specialty? I couldn't find it on the website. Thanks in advance!

hey - i haven't even started at gw yet, but you should definitely read through the gw class of 2010 thread in the allopathic class thread section. a number of current gw students and a recent graduate have posted about their experiences and classes, and it has been very helpful. best of luck.

MS III here - happy as a clam. You can do your primary care rotation in geriatrics in your third year but I don't know if there's a specific fellowship for it once you're out of residency - is that what you mean?
Lots of opportunities to do community stuff which I did throughout my first two years, people travelled over spring break and summer to work in clinics abroad, ethiopa, haiti, etc.
It's a pretty good school. We're not ranked like the best ever but I get the sense that we turn out some pretty solid clinicians. You get to rotate through quite a few different hospitals. I love my classmates too. Definitely a good choice for me, and the transition from the west coast wasn't too bad...hate the humidity though!

thank you everyone! i do hope i get to join you fine clinicians in the ranks at GW. I'll just have to wait and see what God has in store! =)

I'm also an MSIII and am overall very happy with GW. There are the usual issues with curriculum design, but if I had to do it over again, I would still choose GW.

If you are interested in geriatrics, check out this link for GW's Center on Aging Health and Humanities which is headed by Dr. Gene Cohen who is well-known within the field (you can check is biography from the links on this site).

Also, the division of geriatrics and palliative care has some truly wonderful physicians, Dr. Katalin Roth and Dr. Christina Puchalski. Dr. Roth works with medical ethics and Dr. Puchalski is the founder of GWISH (GW Institute for Spirituality and Health).

Hope you find this helpful.
