I dont know if there are any OMFS residents from the northeast area out there (doesn't sound like it). But if any of you guys have any information on any of the programs in the East that would be very helpful. I'm interested in the hardcore programs, specifically, the trauma I and trauma II hospitals so I would like to get A LOT of exposure in trauma. Secondly, I also want a good amount of oncology (that's where most of my research experience lies). So if there is any one out there with any information on which programs out here in the east would be good for me I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

michigan is probably nearest to your geography of interest

As far as I know, Michigan, Maryland, Jacksonville, and one of the New York programs do oncology. I can't remember which NYC program, they have a fellow that just finished a cancer fellowship.

Generally speaking, the qualities you are looking for just aren't that available in the Northeast area.

I think that SUNY Downstate (King's County) has an Ord-trained fellow...

Man tell your boy at NYU I said wassup... I have not been able to reach him since before i matched. How is med school treating you?

i find it interesting that this generation of omfs attendings who do cancer are basically either ord trained or dierks trained. great thing is now their fellows are scattered around the country. seems like a matter of time before omfs takes over oral oncology again.

I dont know......I still think it's horrendous to be in the OR for 12 hours straight just to remove a 1cm tumor and a few lymph nodes.

Med school is fine.....lot time wasted though.....I sneak into the OR with OMFS once in a while to do mandibles whenever I can.....otherwise it's "Yes, sir" and "Yes, ma'am" .......oh,and I love when I get asked, "what are you considering for residency?".......Hah! I tell them "I think surgery is interesting, but have a real interest for family medicine."

Maryland is the only program in the NE that does cancer as far as I know. The following are the better NE programs that do not do cancer:
UPMC (rumors of many residents leaving the program)
Penn
LIJ
Columbia
UCONN

I would second that Penn is a pretty solid program and would add Harvard/MGH. Despite what you may read on this board, it is definitely a solid program and has acquired new faculty at BWH for cancer/cosmetics.

Who's doing cancer there now?

Stephens (who also does cosmetics) and Ferraro, and word is that they're getting a Maxfac from the UK...When I was there on my externship, Stephens did the resections and local flaps. Free flaps were done in conjunction with the plastics service.

I had some Gyno tell me the other day that it wasn't too late to consider switching into gyno... Apparently the lifestyle is great???

I played golf with a gyno and his wife once. Guy was miserable. Though his wife was a bit domineering. If I had to look at a nasty snatch while at work all day, and then another one when I got home, I'd probably be miserable as well.
