Hey guys,
I'll be back in NYC over the summer and was wodnering if anyone could recommend a good place that still accepts pre-meds wishing to help out in research?
Btw I keep hearing about the NIH, are they really competative to get into?
Any chance that any research faciliy would accept a second year (sophomore to be) student?

Mt. Sinai hires a good amount of summer students in their research labs. Cornell has Rockefeller and Sloane Kettering, which are mega research centers in Manhattan and they hire summer students for research. Check the hospitals associated with Columbia, Downstate and Albert Einstein also alongside their associated research buildings. Send out emails or if you have any networking already done with nyc medical schools try to get someone to help you. You may be able to find a spot as a sophomore but you have to be very very proactive as it is getting a little late.

Research in NYC? GTFO

But seriously, you won't find a larger concentration of biomedical researchers...except for maybe in Boston or Bethesda. Sinai, Tri-I, Columbia, New York-Presbyterian, Hospital for Special Surgery, NYU, AECOM, Cold Spring Harbor (Long Island)...You could probably work at any of them.
