Hey all I know this is kinda early to be thinking about this but I plan on entering DS in fall 2013.
I got into stonybrook and Columbia (I'm a NY resident)
In the future I plan to specialize. I do not know exactly what at this point but I am really thinking hard because I want to pick the dental school that will give me the best opportunities to make this happen.
Do you guys have any advice on which school would provide this opportunity? These are both excellent schools, and each has their own positives and negatives such as location, cost etc.

I'm really stuck on which one to choose, because I hear mixed reviews on both. Some might be more personal than others.

I appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance! 🙂

Also do residency programs prefer one over the other? Because Columbia is P/F so how exactly can they make a valid choice?

Getting into a residency has nothing to do with which school you go to, and everything to do with who you are. If you are intelligent, make good grades, have strong letters of recommendation, and then score well on whatever new tests they come out with for residency you will be fine. The reason more people go to residency from certain schools over others is because smarter people are attending those schools, not because those schools offer better instruction on how to cut holes in a tooth and pack stuff in.
Pick the school you like more.
