Hi everyone,

I got my score this weekend and I was very disappointed to say the least. Ended up with a 223/90 and my goal was atleast a 230. I am in a pretty competitive class with alot of people scoring in the 230's and 240's. I have been battling some health problems for the past year involving chronic fatigue and I think it might have had an impact on my score.

Are my chances of a competitive residency shot in OB/GYN or IM shot eg. Brigham Women's or UCLA? Should I just work on nailing Step 2 and is it a good idea to mention my health problems in my personal statement as an explanation for my score?

Any advice, greatly appreciated. 🙁

I think that score is fine for IM and OB, at least it shouldn't hurt you - it just won't help you a lot. IMHO scoring well on step 2 is overrated, the PD's just don't care past step 1. As for chronic fatigue, I wouldn't mention it as many docs don't believe it exists and it certainly isn't going to make them want you more for residency.

Definitely don't mention "chronic fatigue." When that term is said, many doctors have an instant gut reaction of: bullsh*t! Also, since internship and residency are demanding, nobody will want someone with chronic fatigue. That just screams "I'm an unsafe pick."
