Any hope for med schools?

I think you have a very good chance at getting into MSU College of Human Medicine. I know more than a couple classmates of mine with slightly lower numbers than yours who got into MSU's MD school.

That makes me a feel a lot better! I already applied to 15 MD schools prior to getting my MCAT score. Since the chances for my stats of getting into MD is about 29% I am definitely considering applying to more DO schools. Do you guys think applying to 2 is enough? If not, how many more should I apply to?
Here is a list I am considering:
NYCOM
OhioCOM
Lake Erie
PCOM
VCOM
WVCOM

It would be great if anyone can comment on if any of these give strong in-state preference or etc.

I would take out Ohio. Since you're out of state you would need to sign a contract saying you would practice in Ohio for 5 years. Otherwise it looks good to me. WVCOM is a good school, but also super expensive.

I'm also a michigan resident and applied to MD and DO schools this past cycle. I had a lower gpa than you but the same mcat. I was accepted to both CCOM and MSU COM last fall. MSU COM places a lot of weight on volunteer hours. I think the average incoming student has something like 600 hours. Otherwise you are definitely on par for MSU COM.

I was also accepted to MSU CHM off of the alternate list this spring. My stats were definitely below the average, but somehow I convinced them that I was a good fit!


In short, based on my experience you have a chance. Good luck!
