Just got my MCAT score in and ended up with a devastating 23L. (PS/VR/BS was 8/7/8) My question is this: with the following stats is there any hope for me at DO schools for this cycle? I'm planning on retaking the MCAT in Sep so would it b better to wait and apply next year so Im not applying late in the cycle. If so, what should i do in the meantime? Any SMPs/post-bacs still taking apps since I'm currently not working?

- sGPA of 3.61
- cGPA of 3.59
- 100 hrs hospital volunteering
- 150 hrs tutoring
- 60 hrs shadowing
- no research

So close to June. So any advice would b great. Thanks

I would try to take the MCAT earlier, like July/August.. if this is not possible, then you can still gamble with a 'late" application in October because your GPAs are pretty solid. I would try to apply this cycle and make sure you get that MCAT up. A 27+ would make you sit pretty and get a few acceptances.

Don't do an SMP/Post-Bac with your GPA. Waste of time and money. Nail that MCAT and get in this cycle.

ECs are a tad weak, GPA is good for D.O, the MCAT is tad below average. I would try all D.O you never know. But yes, the MCAT - if raised will help you out obv

Yeah like Willy said, taking the MCAT earlier would be best... not fun to try and play the late app game. If you have some extra time in there you could get some more shadowing in to bump up your ECs. Lastly, you don't need a post-bacc or smp, your GPAs are average or above so doing those would be of no real benefit.

Thanks for all the help. I'm actually going to start shadowing a Peds DO starting next week so that should help out. I do have more ECs but that was just a quick summary.

As far as applying early, I'm still working on my PS (and it still needs a good amount of work) but everything else is pretty much set. Should I submit my app w/this score as soon as I can and then send in the scores for my 2nd MCAT later? Or should I wait till I get my scores back from the 2nd test and send everything in all together? I don't want to get screened out automatically but I also don't want to apply late either.

Also I'm thinking of the Aug 4th (1pm) MCAT. Taking the 8am was a big mistake since I'm definitely an afternoon person. I would ideally like to test in July but the 26th just seems a bit too early and I don't want to rush it and get a bad score again. I want to make sure I never have to open an MCAT book again after this summer.
