Schneider children hospital NS LIJ---- very reputable program but havent heard many people talking about this program here...have heard mixed reviews so any inputs will be appreciated...thanx and good luck to all with the match results.🙂

hey all, i am sure its not a difficult question ....come on someone......

I wanted to reply to your post in this forum as well as to your post in the NYMC forum. I don't know what to do about Schneider's, I have mixed feelings also, but ultimately, I will probably only rank 6 or 7 programs total and it will be lower on my list.

the trendy thing to say "the pathology", a resident there will definately be working hard and seeing a lot of cases.

you are able to add an extra clinic of your choice early on in second year, to establish a solid relationship with a subspecialist in an area of your choice. But, depending on the subspecialty, this may be too late as some start the application process by mid 2nd year.

I liked that the PD's were almost solely devoted to teaching and were the "teaching attendings" for the major services that residents take care of, but I also thought, even if they are good, would I grow tired of the same attending throughout the year?

Dislikes:
Large # of residents, and at least on the limited time I was there in morning report, it didn't seem like they were outgoing at answering the questions posed or discussing a case. I felt like I was in a room of shy medical students, rather than a group of residents who wanted to learn.

Hospital will be going through a lot of construction to update its look...right now, to me it feels a tiny bit cramped and just not as spacious (with the areas of workspace for doctors and nurses...I feel like we would all be on top of each other grabbing charts and everything).

Few call-free months throughout all of the three years...many residents looked tired, maybe this is why they didn't really talk during morning report?

Lastly, It's OK to have more than one site for the program, cause it will give some variety, however, I didn't like the idea of traveling down to Far Rockaway for a couple months and switching between North Shore and Schneider's very often.

These are the major thoughts on the program...I thought I was going to like it more, and if time, I may go back for a second look to confirm my thoughts and decide how far exactly I want it down on my rank list...but it will definately not be #1.

Have you seen the clinics at Schneider's? What are some more of your thoughts on Schneider's, now that I've given a bunch? What other programs are you looking at highly....Montefiore? Nyu? Sinai?
