Hi I'm a 4th year US med student who's really interested in attending Lahey and wanted to run some "what are my chances"-type q's and ask general strategies/advice for applying to IM at Lahey.
Basics:
Step 1: 232
I have a red flag in that I had to remediate my OB/GYN clerkship due to failure of my exam. There are circumstances involving a death in my immediate family. I've rec'd kind remarks from all preceptors and the clerkship director who has given me a great rec letter. They were understanding of the situation and (are) allowing me to remediate my exam but I cannot avoid having "failed" the clerkship once.
I passed all other clerkships with Straight B's (recorded as pass). Rec'd good/great evals from all preceptors. I've never honored only because of the shelf score cutoffs at my school.
I plan to knock my remediation OB exam out of the park and hopefully do the same for step 2.
Other things to note:
- I have an M.S. in biomechanical engineering (i'm slightly older than avg student) and I have work experience as an R.A. in pharma.
- I don't have any first author publications
- I am from the burlington/lexington area--I grew up there and have strong personal connections to the area. My father rec'd his CABGx4 at Lahey (Dr. Fitton was the one who did it--great guy). I would love to work at this clinic as it represents a point of conception for my medical career.
Thanks so much for any and all advice!
