Any Med students ever done an ironman?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Several people(3 or 4) in my med school school class did an ironman. Obviously it took a lot of planning, but it was doable.

Is it possible to have time to train for an ironman during school?

I did two ironmans in medical school. They cost about 7.50 (matinee) and lasted about 2 hours...EACH! That johnny depp looking character was great!

The mods need to instate some kind of filter that blocks all topics starting with "Any med students ever..."

Haven't heard of any ironmans here, but myself and a few others are training for the NYC marathon. You can do it, just know it will be training/studying most of the time so try to find friends willing to train with you to get some quality human time in as well.

Yeah tons of marathoner's and other triathletes in my class. I don't see why an IM is unattainable.

I know tons of residents and docs that have done or are still doing IMs.

Yeah, my bro also did an Ironman during his first year of med school.

Med school is a time suck (especially 3rd year), but you'll always have time for a few things you feel are important. If you care enough about training, you'll find time to do it. Now I wouldn't count on winning the thing, but as I understand finishing is the real achievement.

I have. I wouldn't do it during school personally, just bc the long rides are such time leeches. They take all day, and then you do a brick run after your 6 hour ride, and then you have to eat and eat. After the race, you are totally drained too and I wouldn't want to study feeling like that. They are also very expensive and not within the normal student budget unless you have other financial resources. Can't wait to pick em up again, maybe after intern year.
