i have around 2000 hours of research in one lab at my undergrad's medical school with two authorships on national posters and an exceptional letter of rec from my PI who's an MD/PhD, but have average stats (510, 3.67cGPA, 3.59sGPA at top 20 undergrad). i only have 150 hours of volunteering at my university's hospital as well and around 50 hours of shadowing. i'm a michigan resident and i'm applying to my state MD's, but wondering if there are lower to mid tier research focused schools that would be a good fit for me.

Einstein comes to mind.
Stony Brook is a NY state school but is pretty OOS friendly. You might want to check it out!

Every school is going to have research available for you to do.
You: 1) Have a lot of desireable experience as a productive member of a lab, 2) Are in medical school so you have some status as someone who isn't some idiot premed/.

Yeah its easier if you're at Yale, but any school you go to is going to have research going on and available to students. The only major difference is how much effort it takes from your end to seek out those opportunities

Jefferson, Case, Einstein, BU, Emory, U Cincy, Dartmouth, Keck all have fine research programs in different fields. NYMC used to until the Touro takeover.

You pretty much have median stats and so the schools I listed are in striking distance, but your best best will be with your state schools and Drexel/Albany class one,s along with any DO school.

thanks. i don't want to apply to schools that have a large community service mission since i only have 150 hours and my app is more research focused. Miami and penn state seem to be two schools that are research focused and are around my stats. u think these two would be a good fit?

Most of the flagship state schools are also usually very research oriented.

Miami? Fine. I interviewed there for my PhD, BTW.

I can't recommend Penn State.

If you invest in MSAR Online, it will tell you how much each school gets in federal funding, and thus you'll get an idea of how strong the are in research.

For example,
Albany: 5.8 million (my school gets more!)
Einstein: 112.6 million
Baylor: 191.1 million
Rosy F: 5.5 million
Case: 220 million
Tufts: 22.6 million
