just wondering...the last thing i heard from them was a mass email saying "don't call or email us, we'll call you if we're interested" 🙄

i think i should just go ahead and withdraw my app. at this point. has anyone gone ahead and withdrawn their app.? if they don't want to hear from us, how do we even withdraw our app. :d?

Yea, I'm in the same boat. I have already withdrawn my application. Just call them and let them know you want to withdraw.

HAHAHAHAHHA perfect description 👍

Yeah, I haven't heard from them yet either other than that "do not contact us" email. Surely they have to send interview invites to some out of staters...

Just so you all know, there are 55 spots in the class. 50 of those go to instate, 2 to DMD/PhD students, and 3 spots to out of state. Good luck, I heard they weren't looking at out of state students this year til they pretty much filled up the in state spots but I may be wrong.

Yeah, I know they only had 3 out-of-staters last year. But I don't think they've sent any out-of-state interview invites yet. Surely they'll interview 10 or 20 people for those spots...

dunno if this helps but yesterday at my interview we had 3 out of staters present. Jill told us that they have sent out 2 or 3 letters but one of them already withdrew and the other ones might not have replied back yet. She said it looks like 6 people will be chosen out of state so it might not be so bad for you. However, from my understanding, MUSC has only recently started interviewing OOS applicants so maybe it's only just beginning. Good luck

at your interview, did they mention when the next round of acceptances will go out?

I had a friend who got his acceptance Friday, so they will probably send out more two weeks from Friday. Deposits are due tomorrow though so maybe there will be some space opened up

i have to say, i have NOT been impressed with how MUSC has handled their application process. You hear NOTHING from them other than getting mass emails that say "don't call or email us", nice 🙄.

did anyone email to withdraw their application?

my understanding is the committee meets the weds after your friday interview. They said you could then hear from them on that Thursday at the earliest. I know some one on here who interviewed on the first interview date and didn't hear back until a few months later. My guess is they reduce your total package down to an objective number score and then depending on how good your score is or how many slots they want to fill, they will then place you in the class or put you in a hold group.

What I'm wondering now that we are getting to the end of the process (only 3 interviews left I think) is whether they will hold off on giving out acceptances until they've seen the whole student pool or if they will continue to fill the class week by week.

I don't think you can blame MUSC for not telling you anything after you found out your application is complete. I don't know many schools that keep you updated until they call you for an interview. I applied to MUSC as an out of state student last year and never heard anything back. They are extremely partial to instate students so depending on how well your scores are it is possible not to hear anything but get a rejection letter. I don't know why you would ever 'pull' your application since you've already paid the dues and keeping it in won't hurt you at all.

i found this statement interesting b/c, looking back, the only schools i was debating b/t where to send a deposit were the ones that regularly communicated with me throughout the process. i guess that was a telling sentiment for me. it felt good to be a person rather than just another applicant SS# xxx-xx-xxxx

also, i went ahead and withdrew my app. from MUSC for a number of reasons: first, i am extremely happy with where i have decided to attend d-school and see no more need to "shop around"; second, given reason #1 i see no point in spending more money interviewing; and third, also given reason #1, i think it would be crummy to keep my app. active when i have already made a decision, and getting a possible acceptance from MUSC would just be a self-esteem thing when other people really want to go there and/or haven't received an acceptance from any school.

yeah I can see how you'd want to withdraw if you knew you are going somewhere else and don't want to stay in the pool. I just thought maybe you were waiting to hear all your options and were still considering MUSC. How much is the deposit usually? As for spending money on traveling, I think Charleston is awesome and would be worth visiting anyways. If you have traveled to many places for interviews though, I can see where it might have been a pricey last 6 months. Hope school works out well for you.

deposit is 326 pretty low in my opinion

When you hear of other schools with deposits of 1K or more, it makes you thankful that the deposit at MUSC is only 326.

BTW.. Does anyone know anything about the new Bee Street Lofts? They are supposed to be really high-end condos near MUSC... Also, any opinions on Sergeant Jasper Apts. or The Courtyards on Meeting Street?

I wonder what these run. They have a ton of different floor plans. I'd hate to get stuck on the side that has highway 17 running right past your balcony heh.

I'm sure they are steep. I lease a 3 bedroom place on Rutledge one block away from the school and we pay 533 a peice. James Island is cheaper and still convenient. West Ashley and John's Island are also within 10-15 minutes.

533 is expensive?? I know West Ashley and James Island are cheaper, but I would prefer to be downtown near the school. I probably wouldn't want to make that commute everyday. It looks like the Bee Street Lofts start around 350k..😱 . I wish I had enough for a down payment.. it looks really nice 🙁

gamecock, are you in the apartments across from Ashley Hall, the girls school? I have some friends there but that parking lot seems so cramped it would probably drive me crazy. $500 a month is a great price though.

we are in a house and rent the bottom floor- very convenient but I have a dog and need a yard. Looking at houses on John's island today...only a 15 minute drive.

you should go to the College of Charleston website. They have a housing section with all the available rentals downtown and on James Island.

I just got a letter from MUSC in my mailbox. I was so excited. .. and then I opened it. It was a dental hygienist's survey for research purposes. What a cruel joke!

I read on predentals.com there were around 700 applicants to MUSC this year. Is that figure correct? About how many out of those get an interview? does anyone know? Sometimes if you get an interview, your chances of getting in are higher depending on how many they invite. I'd love to know how many they invite each cycle.

close to 2,000 applicants this year, yet I don't know how many of those are from out of state applicants who just blindly apply to every school. 50 spots go to in state, 3 to out of state, and 2 to DMD/phD programs. Hope this helps!
