Any outs?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I know guys who switched to psych and urology after their CA-1 year. Another guy I know switched to IM after 3 months of CA-1 year and is now a cardiologist.

I would reach out to people you already know at your current institution and medical school. All the switches were either back to programs affiliated with their medical school or the same institution as the anesthesia residency.

You are out of training yes?

Lots of 1 year fellowships out there that have previously been discussed on herr. Sleep medicine. Functional medicine? Critical care and pain obviously. I'm sure many others can offer more advice. Get certified in botox and go work in some boutique.

We still have jobs. Look at the collapse of EM this year and that's before all the graduates from the profligate physician and provider production even started to kick in.

Also, what are the reasons? Is your situation one that could be improved simply with a different job? What's killing you about anesthesia?

What happened to EM this year?

They have jobs too but the number of residency slots increased by 20% over the past 5 years.

Any suggestions for someone who wants to leave anesthesia? How hard is it to enter second residency?
ICU, pain, teaching role? mommy track?
Find a position to work with residents all the time and get them to do all the thinking and work, then criticise/blame them when anything goes wrong. Thats what my faculty did, despite them literally killing patients when let loose on their own

Shady management companies taking full advantage of covid. A lot of places had their volumes drop so the companies cut hours, cut days and cut pay. A lot of people were asked to take pay cuts even if they were salaried. Now that volumes are coming back up, they aren't adding shifts or hours. Physicians are just working harder and seeing more patients as well as charting more in their after hours time. Also, there are a ton of midlevels and EM residents can't find decent jobs.
