Hey,
My first time on the forum...
I am a student from good ol' PEI.... canada. But anyways! I finished my B Sc. in chem last year and decided to take the year off to do some research and etc. I wrote my mcats twice in which... i didn't do as well as i wanted to so i never applied to canadian schools. That is why i applied to Trinity for the upcoming year.
I am also considering Pharmacy as an option. I applied for the upcoming year and i think i have a good shot of getting in. So i'm torn... between the options. PHarmacy is good... and i'd be close home
Med would be awesome... in a different Country. I"d also have an IMG status on me for a while which would suck....

But anyways... Just wondering what you guys think??
I got my acceptence letter for Trinity today... didn't apply to any other Irish med schools. Waiting to hear on Pharmacy school

So if anyone has any suggestions or wants to tell me how good trinity is... or... are going to trinity feel FREE TO write back!!!

thanks! 😳

Well, I love Trinity 😉. I'm not exactly sure why because it does have it's downsides, but what school doesn't? pharmacy and medicine aren't very similar. Pharmacy is a lot more business-oriented, so if you like the competition market and the business side of things, it could be the way to go. medicine is more health and people-oriented so if you like the more humanistic side of things and less of the mercenary world, medicine would be for you. Just make sure you do well on the USMLE 🙂.

Hi!

So I assume you go to trinity... what exactly do you like and not like about the school?

Thanks!! 🙂

i think you need to figure out first if you want to be a doctor or pharmacist....two very different worlds....after that the rest will fall into place...

What I like: the people, the real sense of community and school pride that Trinity people have about going to Trinity (a lot of this arises because it's a closed campus), the history and beautiful old architecture, lecture halls (ie. Anatomy, physics, museum buildings) that are still old school (wooden amphitheatres and all) because they were built in the 16th-17th centuries, THE PAV (campus bar), the fact that I can be doing medicine but really committed to a sports team and the Dept. of Sport at the same time, again, the people. Some of the profs are very helpful and I still chat to a lot of them even though I don't have those courses anymore (ie. the Anatomy profs I know quite well). I also like (especially in the younger years), the cooperation among the class - people going out of their way to provide notes, helpful websites, etc. The comraderie and sense of everyone wanting everyone else to do well. This is year-dependent and can start to change in the upper years.

What I don't like: - mainly things that affect the whole Irish country and culture, and things you'll find at every university. Irish are good at talking a lot, not so good at actually doing what they talk about. Or if they want to implement something useful it'll take a million years to get right. Sometimes they've got good ideas about change that should be beneficial but because of poor planning or resources, they manage to F it up and badly. Or resistance to taking in new logical suggestions. Inefficiency - you get good at hounding people (ie school admin) about doing things, and hounding them more to get them to do it on time (but if you hound too much they get offended, so you learn how to sweet talk). Because of inefficiency and miscommunication between departments, sometimes you feel you're teaching yourself medicine. And you actually are, literally. Then you'll be examined on it. But despite all this, I really like it here and like the people 😉. You just have to be a bit proactive...

Another thing I don't like : Ireland (esp Dublin) is expensive. As in, you're not getting value for money, not that the quality of anything is higher than anywhere else.
