Hi, I'm just about done with my BS and I need advice as to where to apply. Here's the situation I have a BA in econ, 2.6 gpa but I went back and got a BS in microbiology, 3.9 gpa. My mcats are strong (vr 14, ps 11, bs 12, s). I have 2 yrs of clinical and research work. I found a student org. I'm planning on applying early but I'm confused and nervous as to where to apply. I was thinking about -cwru, osu, uc, wright state, pitt, penn state and gw. Any other sugg. considering my stats. Thanks 😕

Nervous!!! You're chillin with thise #'s. So you have a bad gpa in econ, youve "grown" as a student. Med schools will see that+37MCAT+Clinical Expereince=Med Student.

Thanks doc3341 for the pep talk. I guess it's just last minute nerves. I suppose i'll apply and see what happens. It's just my old gpa sucks(can't stand econ) and I know it's always on my record. If I get into at least 1 med school i'll really be chillin.

what state do you live in? a good rule of thumb is to apply to your state school(s), schools whose averages on mcat, goa, etc match your own, and then a few "reach" or "dream" schools. if you want to do primary care you might want to focus on schools that are stronger in that area and if you want to do research schools that have more of that type of focus. if you are from a tough state like california, apply to a lot of schools if you want to be sure to get in. there are no "safety" schools but there are some that seem to come up consistently on the pre-allo forum as people's "safer" schools, like nymc, uvm, drexel, temple, gwu. apply to a wide range and you should be fine. and i think you sound like a strong applicants so i wouldn't stress too much. just remember that it is a very random process and you never know what will happen so it's best to cover all your bases. good luck 🙂

Thanks, for the advice. I'm from ohio and I'm more interested in primary care but I'm not going to rule out research. There are about 5 schools here that I'm considering. I'll def. look into the safer schools that were mentioned. What's the best amount of schools to apply to? I was thinking 7 schools at my "level", 3 "safer" and 3 "reach" schools. Does that sound like enough?
