The island is very very dangerous, it may sound great students are the only ones with money so there is a lot of crime on students, a lot of robbery and rape. There are no guns on the island but all the men carry machetes. You can only live on the campus for one semester then you take your life in your hands to live off campus. There is also a problem with clinicals as most semesters do not match up times with starting dates for state schools. They won't be honest with you at the interview, research for yourself. Good Luck
I know I don't chime in here much anymore (twelvetigers is my eyes and ears on SDN
😀), but I really have to disagree with this. I attended Ross for a year, and left after that, mostly because I decided I didn't want to be a vet anymore, although a smaller part of it was that I didn't like living on the island. However, I knew several people there who loved it (one of my friends hasn't been home since she started there), and it's not as bad as this person makes it sound.
I've never heard of anyone getting raped there (and believe me, I would have- Campus Security sends out e-mails whenever there's an "incident"). Not ALL of the men carry machetes, generally only the ones who are using them for work. Yes, there was an incident where a group of students was attacked by a guy with a machete, but that happened once while I was there, and it's not by any means something that happens often. Yes, there is crime- mostly robberies, some assault. Even though there is crime on the island, I think a lot of the danger is perceived, because if you're a woman or even group of women walking around, you're likely to get leered at and maybe verbally harassed, but that doesn't mean that the people doing that are dangerous or will hurt you. While there are a few dangerous crimes that happen every once in a while, most of the things that happened, at least while I was there, were robberies and people putting things in the street so that you'd get out of your car to move them, and stealing your stuff and/or your car. Basically, it's about as dangerous as, and maybe even less dangerous than, living in a big city in the States. Maybe it's because I'm from the city with the highest homicide rate in the country, but St Kitts didn't really feel dangerous to me.
Anyway, I ramble. The take-home message is, be smart, travel in groups, and use common sense, and you should be fairly safe on the island. We all know that I'm not the poster child for loving St Kitts, but it kinda irritates me when people talk so extremely about anything, because they might be discouraging people from going there who would really like it.
I've been long-winded enough for now, but if anyone has any questions about Ross or the island, please feel free to PM me. I'm not on here much anymore, but I get e-mail notices when I get a PM. Hope this was helpful to someone!
