does anyone know which schools have the lowest mcat cut off's?! plus does anyone know of anyone that has gotten admission with these stats > or where to even think of applying with these?
gpa = 3.5
science gpa = 3.5
mcat = v9, p8, b8 - 25
unfortunately these horrid scores r mine 🙁 ....... any hope in allopathic schools in us?
plus wat is the general view on caribbean schools > esp. st.george's med school of grenada (the best school of caribbeans)

ever thought of just waiting a year and taking the mcat again?

your gpa is nothing to ashamed of...

your mcat eh....

but i do believe if you studied on your weaknesses you can bring it up....bringing those 8 to 9 would make i think the biggest of differences.

A friend of mine got into PCOM and St. George's with a 24 and a GPA lower than yours (though he has a ton of research/volunteer experience). He was told that if he could get into any osteopathic schools to chose that over a Caribbean school, unless you just REALLY want the MD.

I think you're very, very borderline. But MCAT is not everything. SHoot, what do we really know. We're going through it with you. So, I think you should apply very wide. Apply DO too. Just see what happens. I think your MCAt is really just not going to help you, but it's probably could be overlooked if you're solid everywhere else. I'm sure that people have gotten in with your numbers. So how we're are all numbers crazy these days. I don't think it's that formulaic.

once in DO school is it possible to transfer to MD schools?!
I really do want to go in MD, not DO....considering that, i didnt even look into DO schools.....& choose caribean schools. I have addmission in st.george's, but i m still applyin to US schools, just have to be sure to hearts content than i m not goin to get admission here & know that i tried.
wat do u all think?

Which ones are your in state schools?

Apply to the schools with lowest MCAT avgs and try to "boost" up your application with ECs etc. There have been people accepted to MD programs with a 25.

Once you get to the interview you need to be AMAZING. Otherwise it can be the kiss of death.

If all else fails why not take a year off and study harder for the MCAT then re-apply?

Although it may seem like a lot now, in the grand scheme of things one more year isn't that much...especially when you are talking about your career for life. If it means that much to you, than take the extra year...start now and study HARD for the April MCAT, do whatever is necessary to get a higher score-- if being an MD is really that important to you that make it your number one priority for the next six months. If you don't have money to spend on a course, buy ExamKrackers material (they are really good, and have a CD set that is awesome) and study every single day...practice, practice, practice (practice exams I would say are almost more important than just studying) and if you can raise each section to at least a 9 (which is only 1 more in each) than my opinion is that you can probably make it into a US allopathic. Don't let rushing and a desire to get to med school now decide where you will go for the next four years...be patient, retake, and GIVE IT YOUR ALL...

That being said-- you may get accepted with a 25....it has definitely been done....

jm2003,

i know exactly what you're goign through. i had the same dilemma last year and retook my MCAT with a year off......decision was well worth it as my MCAT went way up. BUT, in the year between, i started polling physicians and asking them there preference...someone who graduated caribbean (specifically st georges) or DO.....almost all of them said they had more confidence in the DO. just so you know what the professionals said. i would choose DO, they learn everything and more.....also, living in the states during your medical education is huge. have you really thought about how hard it would be to live in a foreign country in the middle of nowhere for 2 years???

wat r the schools that have the lowest mcat average?
