Any shot at MD and how borderline for DO?

MCAT 1= BS12 PS10 VR4 26N
MCAT 2 10 10 7 27N

1st MCAT during verbal extenuating circumstance AAMC provided letter.

cGPA= 3.75
sGPA~3.55

employment

tutored organic chemistry for 1 year over two semesters

2.5 years working as Lab technician at a private practice

volunteer exp

1 week mobile brigade overseas~ 150 hrs

hospital ~45 current hours will be there for another year

2 years of research


would love MD or DO love osteopathic principles but still will apply MD. do I have a shot at either? I know my MCAT is about average for DO but I have been feeling quite anxious recently as I know the competition is on the uptick and my VR is miserable.

any input is appreciated thanks a lot.

You're a shoo-in for DO. MD is unrealistic with a 7 VR and a 27 overall. It is worth shooting for, though. If your research is productive and you can raise your GPA you will have a better chance.

yeah, you may interview at a couple of MD schools, but I doubt they'd take you.

However I had the same GPA as you, and had a 29 and got in. So is re-taking an option?


Yeah, def shoe-in for DO as long as you have the DO LOR. If not, get one!!!!

I have contemplated it a lot as I was averaging 8 and 9s (VR) on my practice tests. But I just decided I really didn't want to go through the process again at the risk of dropping in the sciences as I did in BS 2nd time around. Also I am more than happy with DO and am hopeful that a 27 will suffice (29 if I can find a school to look at highest sub scores lol).

If I get 0 looks i will obviously go back to the drawing board and take again as I have no plans of considering any other career but I am trying to stay positive.

I have an MD LOR and I am working on a DO LOR but am running short on time! 🙁
