I was browsing through the AAMC postbac listings, and it seems like I'm spinning my wheels looking for programs that aren't past their application deadlines. I've applied to Tulane's ACP and Drexel's IMS so far. Are there any other programs (very preferably with linkages) I can still shoot for? I see Cinci offers one, as does Georgetown. Those are both mucho expensive, though. 🙁 Oh, Dartmouth, too.

There's also Boston University and Loyola University Chicago. I'm sure they're still accepting applications.

where are you reading that you need a gre? i read the site and the brochure twice and i can't find it.

I submitted my application online yesterday. There was no space for MCAT scores on it, just GRE. At the end of the application it lists additional stuff you need to do, including releasing GRE scores.

I called up the office and asked them if I could submit my MCAT scores in place of the GRE (since I haven't taken it and don't plan to). They said they require the GRE even for the MSBS program. Since the program is officially part of the graduate school, and the graduate school requires it for all programs, we can't replace the GRE with MCAT scores.

Luckily, you don't pay for the application until you mail in a check, so I didn't waste any money on it...just the 30 minutes to fill it out. The online app is really short and asks for basic info...all the details like essays and transcripts you submit in hard copy.

hm... i wonder how much GRE scores are weighed in admission decisions. did they tell you which gre subject exam? that's strange b/c the other SMPs i've talked to/encountered say that the GRE is not required and some don't even look at it. strange.

i might call toledo tomorrow.

yeah, i was pretty surprised that they don't take the MCAT. i'm sure you can submit your MCAT score, and it will be considered more than the GRE in your review, but you still have to take the GRE and have your score on file "officially."

i have no idea what subject exams there are haha. i don't plan on taking the GRE to apply to toledo when i've already gotten into 3 other SMPs. if you've already taken the GRE, then you're set, just include your MCAT score report for them to see.

CoolSpot, what is your status with Georgetown?

I was waitlisted mid-january or something and have heard nothing since. My supervisor sent an additional rec letter there when she sent them to my med schools that were still considering me. I also sent an update letter with things not included in my AMCAS.

On their forum they say they periodically review the waitlist, but in a separate email Ms. Cabiness told me they don't look at them until the Spring...so I'm guessing I won't hear anything for a while.

I'm still kinda surprised I got waitlisted, since I thought I'd be the perfect fit for their SMP. I called and told them my situtation before I applied and they said I would be an "extremely competitive applicant." I'm still heavily considering Cinci, so even if I get in, I might still go to Cinci.

Just a quick point. Cincy's SMP is still open for applications..up to June 1st I think. There's one very important difference between Cincy and G-town. G-town REQUIRES you to apply to medical school while you're in the SMP, while Cincy does not...you can apply while you're in it or wait til after...we're about split down the middle in our current class for each path. That's why I picked Cincy over G-town, otherwise I would've sent in AMCAS with my original (bad) gpa and they would only see that I was enrolled in an SMP. Go to the forum on the 08-09 Cincy SMP class and you'll see some posts from myself and other current students regarding the program. Keep in mind also, not every SMP allows you to take actual medical courses side-by-side with medical students (for example, Tufts, Loyola, and Drexel do NOT). Cincy and G-town do, and I believe so does Boston's. Also, Cincy is 20 students, G-town SMP is around 150 or so...that might be a factor for people.

I've heard from a few previous students that Georgetown has done well recently with Case western and Cleveland Clinic... Good to know!

No idea...not many of them post their success rates. Cincy and Boston do...and I think G-town.

You know what the success rate has been for Tufts since the program started? I´m just curious.

Well, considering that the program is still in its first year, the success rate is only a number that Chuck Norris can calculate (divide by zero).

so i just got an email from the MSBS program at toledo, and they now say they take the MCAT. that kinda annoys me, that they directly tell me on the phone that they require the GRE, and now they say MCAT is acceptable in place. i have a feeling they always accepted the MCAT, but for some reason told me differently on the phone. it's probably too late to get all my stuff in by may 1st, but whatever. here's the email below:
