I've read a couple of posts where people mention moving around during your 3rd and 4th year for rotation sites...Anyone care to share their experience or that of anyone they know? I do recall reading something about how 60% stay in the Bay Area for rotations or that they're working on that figure...
Seems to me like Touro has a lot of hospital affliliations within and outside of CA/the US...Thanks in advance.

i'd like to know more about this too 🙂 i would like to do as many rotations as i can in the chicago area because I know that is where I want to be in the end 😉

also, i was recently told that touro is going to be implementing a new curriculum where we have shorter days to allow for more independent study time...instead of going 8-5 everyday next fall students will be going like 8-2 or 8-12 ( not exactly sure). can anyone elaborate if this is true also? thanks! 🙂

Hmm I think we might be out of luck on this one...Doesn't seem like there are a whole lot of Touro-MI students hanging out on SDN!! (I've actually asked this question in the past and didn't have much luck...)

i think tucom students are on vacation now since they just had exams..we'll just have to wait till they get back 😉

I'm a 3rd year Touro student. Just to let you know that if you want to stay in California during your 3rd or 4th year, you can. Take note though, what hospital/area you get from the lottery depends entirely on what your fellow classmates choose as well. You choose your top 3 hospitals/areas, and based on the board where your classmates can state their top choice, you'll have a pretty good guess where you will end up. Touro's lottery assigns you a place and you have a few days to switch if you change your mind. Touro has rotations in other states as well such as NY, Michigan, Pennsyl, Nevada. These rotations are easy to get since most opt to stay within CA.

For your third year, you will most likely stay in the same hospital, unless you stay in the bay area. Bay area 3rd year students drive to different hospitals all around the bay area. Hope that helps.

thanks for the info Avonlea 🙂 i had another quick question, can you do your entire 4th year outside of affiliated sites? i read on the touro website under 4th year rotations that 20 out of the 40 weeks must be done at affiliate sites, i am hoping to be in illinois for most if not all of my 4th year...thanks! 🙂

Hey guys,

I recently spoke to the director of admissions at the new Harlem campus to ask about the school.

I asked about the affiliated hospitals for rotations and he said that the hospitals that are confirmed are Harlem, and Parkway so far.

Hope that helps.

Peace

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Interesting, I'd love to find out more about the lottery system and how it works...
Also, if anyone knows of a link listing the hospitals or if you know the locations in NY that'd be great...I'm wondering if the Touro-Harlem program will share affiliated hospitals? I know there was some question as to whether Touro-LV would be doing so...

I don't know about the policy on how many rotations you have to do at affiliated sites. You can ask Michelle who is the 4th year coordinator [email protected]. We have 10 weeks of flex time you can spend in chicago that are non-rotation time to study, vacation, what not. Plus we have 4 blocks of elective rotations you can do anywhere in the world.

As for hospitals in NY they are Wilson Memorial in Johnson City and in Far Rockaway, forgot the name. You can learn more about touro's rotation on the Mare Island Student Life website http://misl.info/cv/c.asp?c=47. The site is down right now, for some reason.

Thanks again. I also found this link to affiliated hospitals which lists an additional NY hospital in the Bronx (St. Francis)...Not sure if it's up-to-date, but definitely good to know for those who might be debating between Touro-MI and Touro-Harlem that you can rotate in NY if you want:

PS: I met Michelle and she's super helpful!
