Hi everyone,

I'm currently working as a pharmacy technician at UCSF inpatient pharmacy, and I will also join with you guys this September. I'd just like to let you know that positions for student interns are open right now, and you can learn about UCSF hospital pharmacy & make money at the same time  !! To apply for the internship at this moment, however, you should have a technician license;you'll be hired as a per-diem technician (per-diem makes more money than stuent intern). Secure your internship from the first year so that you don't have to worry about all job-hunting processes next summer!

I'll list what I think are good and bad sides about UCSF; If you're interested, you can directly contact our manager Kethen So, PharmD.

Phone number : 415-353-1029
E-mail: [email protected]

Kethen wants first year students to start working right away, so that he can train students before school starts.

If you have any questions to me, you can leave me a PM
I hope I'll see you guys at the pharmacy & at the school soon!

***********GOOD************

1. you'll have a chance to learn about a hospital pharmacy. We have several different areas: CUDA (central unit dose dispensing area), IVAS (Intra-Venous Additive Area), Pediatric satellite pharmacy, OR satellite pharmacy, Transplant pharmacy etc. You may have to start from working at the CUDA if you don't have many experiences, but you'll definitely be able to see what the UCSF pharmacy is like.

2. you are working right next to the school (pharmacy is at the basement of the UCSF medical center), so if you live near campus, you don't have to commute at all.

3. Throughout the school year, you'll be able to work as a per-diem. Per-diem makes around 20-21 dollars per hour here ( see the site http://ucsfhr.ucsf.edu/staffing/tpp/ ) compared to intern starting $15/ hour.

4. You'll see and get to know a lot of other pharmacy students, residents (who will teach us at some points), and many pharmacists (who will also teach us as assoiciate professors). so... connections!!

5. There are many other good sides, but I can't say enough. 😛

************BAD*******************
1. UCSF pharmacy is an inpatient pharmacy; There is no outpatient pharmacy at UCSF. Therefore, if you want any patient contact or want to learn about insurance, this is not the place you want to be.

2. You'll work as a technician. Therefore, you are not allowed to have any kinds of consultation, make entries, or supervise others. You'll learn these during your rotations.

3. You should show very strong & steady commitment; therefore, you should understand that you may have to work once a week (mostly on weekends) even during school days. During vacation, you may have to work full-time (however, my manager is very good about the student's vacation requests).

4. Please note that working during the first year doesn't count to your internship hours. It will accrue from next summer.

Still interested? you know what you should do~
