Hi,
I am a Canadian student and have completed most (but not ALL) pre-reqs. I am confused since I do have credits like chem, bio, calculus and social sciences, but not other required credits. Are there any American public universities that conditionally accept students directly to PharmD, given that I do not have all pre-reqs (like English, History, etc)?
I don't want to risk of going to US just to finish 1 year of pre-req. if they do not give any guarantee of accepting to PharmD thereafter.

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

For most schools, it's okay if you haven't finished all of your pre-req coursework at the time of applying. However, you MUST finish it all before you actually start attending the pharmacy school.

For instance, I have all my pre-reqs complete except for Orgo Lab II. Am applying for Fall 2008 admission. If I get it (and I hope to God that I do 😀), I just need to make sure I take and pass Orgo Lab II by Fall 2008. So, I plan to take the course in the Spring before it.

Be careful though, some schools may say something like "we will not admit you if you have more than 9 credit hours of coursework that needs to be done by the summer before admission," or something to that effect.

I was accepted without having one of my requirements finished on the condition that I finish it before the school term begins. If you've shown that you do well in classes, and that you won't randomly fail it, they'll accept you without having finished all pre-reqs.

Thank you for your replies.

So if they accept you at say 3.x currrent gpa, do they care of your gpa at the end when you finish all of your courses as long as you pass them?
PS: Also I am so damned confuse since each universities have their own pre-reqs of certain courses. E.g. Some needs US History, while other needs Anatomy, etc. How can we satisfy their needs in such cases? Does this mean that I can only apply at one university? :S

With most schools all they care is that you get a C or higher (no C minuses though) in the prereq courses you have left once you're accepted. I've never heard of a school expecting someone to maintain a minimum GPA after they've been accepted.

Yup, every school has slightly different pre-reqs. It's best to sit down, decide what schools you really want to apply to, figure out all the pre-reqs each school wants and make sure you take the classes. It's a pain having to take a class like statistics when only one other school I applied to wanted it, but I figured it was best to take it and improve my odds of acceptance by being able to apply to multiple programs.
