I recently got a job at Walgreens to train as a pharmacy tech. I didn't expect to get the job at all, but I did and I start tomorrow. Just wanted to see if anyone has any advice and how do you like working there, etc.?

No I don't have a tech license, that's why I didn't think I would get the job. Plus.

I just got a job at Walgreens to as a Tech and have no license, Im at a busy one but its not all that hard, but I dont know how to do half of the stuff, I only know how to fill, mix, look for prescriptions on the comp and some other stuff, I still need to train on the comp.

hi, I am looking for the job at Walgreen, too. Would you please tell me what can I do to apply for the job? THanks a lot

I had no prior experience I applied, I kept calling them checking on my app. then got an interview told them I was going to pharm. school they told me about how they pay for classes and got the job. 😀

I've been working for Walgreens for the past 5 years now. They want you to get license within a year and they'll pay for it. Walgreens is okay, they have excellent systems (depends if you are at a busy store or not). I'm at a very busy store, and the only thing I don't like about Walgreens is that they don't want to pay, I mean provide 🙂 extra pharmacist when needed. So I am on my feet all day with no break because of lack of help. If your store is slow, then you would be okay. I'm in Georgia, so it might be different somewhere else....

Yeah Im at one in Illinois and ours is one of the busiest over here, they just threw me in to cashier one day cause all 3 techs called in and all 3 stores managers were back there filling it was funny actually xD, and just now they tell me I have to do some training on the computers after ive been in there learning by myself..

wow, you guys have it nice.
You're not hired as a tech at Rite Aid unless you have a license. Period.
Plus the training sucks. It's not really training. It's called learning from your mistakes!😱

Thats Walgreens for you 😀 . Thats funny, your techs call out too huh? Someone is calling out everyday, and I don't blame them. It's not worth being in a busy store with not a lot of help! Trust me, you will learn better with hands on experience, you won't remember that Learn It crap on the computer!

LOL...you probably won't meet a mean pharmacist, but you will meet a slow pharmacist and thats worse than a mean pharmacist (to me). You'll see what I mean.. good luck and say hi to Mr. Walgreens for me (Illinois is Walgreens' homebase, Chicago). I'm sure he would be popping up every now and then

if you want to meet a mean pharmacist, go to Rite Aid😀

hi i am a pharm tech at walgreens. i work at one of the busiest stores in the district. we're right across the street from a hospital 👎
and it leads to a lot of stress and frustration when you have to deal with patients who are on narcotics 😡 and want their meds NOW! lol
it's not a bad job and the only reason im really doing it is to gain some pharmacy experience. it took them a few weeks to get back to me after i applied online. i called the store by my house a couple of times and asked about my application status and never got a call back so i thought i wouldn't be hired since i had no pharmacy experience at all. so then i talked to one of my friends sister who is a walgreen pharm manager and she gave me the number to the district recruiter. after giving him a call i received a call back within 24 hrs and was scheduled for an interview😀
shortly after i was training. there is a lot of video watching and computer stuff at first then you start doing the hands on pill counting 😎
working at such a busy store makes it kinda hard on newbie techs because all the other techs and pharmacists are busy helping patients or calling insurance company to help you out. but try to talk to your manager and see if you can be scheduled on less busy times like after 6pm. working with interns can be helpful too because they usually help new people out more than techs who've been working there for years and do not wanna deal with newbies... imo. 🙄
i have been working there for 4 months now and will be taking my certification exam in march which will get me a raise

to sum it all up it's not a bad place to work at eventhough the pay is not all that great. it can be interesting and somedays it will just drive u mad. they do hire people without any experience and get you licensed. they do require you to get certified after 2 years and will pay for it. more than likely you will be cashiering or drive thru for a while until you learn how to type scripts and deal with insurance rejects and authorizations.

Well before they told me I had to do training on the comp. I was filling prescriptions, cashiering, drive thru, they were showing me how to put in refills and alll that.

I applied to Walgreens online just on a whim and never thought I would get it. A couple of weeks later I get a call out of the blue for an interview. I went in, and the manager started saying that they were looking for certified techs and were going to interview some people that were certified and had experience so he was mainly talking to me about being a beauty consultant. He called last week and told me he was going to hire me as a pharmacy tech so I was pretty happy about that. I need the experience to see if this is what I really want to do, plus I need the money.😎

He said our stores fills about 250 scripts a day, but I've heard of other Walgreens being busier. He said he was going to start me off on the computer and after I do a module, I'll actually go to the pharmacy and practice what I learned. He said they use to just sit you on the computer for a week then you learn hands on, but you might forget if you do it like that. Anyways, I'm nervous and excited to start.

I've worked retail before, and I know how dumb some people can be, so it's probably not going to be better when they're sick and want their medication.

lol yeah retail can be pretty bad...
after watching the training videos and being told by my trainer that we can not run charges through as debit in the drive thru because that requires a pin to be entered. so 2nd week on the job i was working on the drive thru and this lady wanted me to use her atm card to pay for her prescriptions and i said im sorry mam but we can only take credit, cash, or check here. she rolled her eyes at me and yelled Mc Donald's does it!!! as she drove away furiously 😀

ii think that the drive thru is a terrible thing for pharmacy and people seriously think it's a fast food place or something and dont seem to understand the concept of a 1 to 2hr wait time at a store that fills 800+ scripts in a day. 😕

Most Walgreens I've worked at has a pin-pad underneath cash register with a LONG extension cord. The cord is long enough so you can put in on the tray and customers can put their pin numbers in. Go look for it next time you go to work...😉

our store has 2 drive up lanes and she was in the far lane even if we did have a key pad there would be no way to send it out in the basket

I work for Walgreens as an intern. I'm actually a floater and go to stores in my district that are short-handed. The computer training isn't bad. I learned a lot from it. Each store is different. I find that all the pharmacists are nice. Like someone said, the worst thing is a slow pharmacist. That really creates a bottleneck.

There are so many pharmacy jobs out there... Why settle on Walgreen's? You could work in a hospital, an extended care pharmacy, at the VA... there are so many options.

I'm a tech for Walgreens, and I have been for the last year and a half.😀 Its a pretty nice gig, except the store I am at is dead and I can't believe they actually need a tech at 9:00pm.😕 Since I'm still in highschool,🙄 I get stuck with all of the evening shifts(?-9),even on breaks. I'm in a new store, and it was really easy to learn the system, even though I didn't have a lot of experience. The worst part was insurance😡 ....

LOl oo man I hated the stupid computer training. I got hired a month and half ago and still have to finish my training. I already learned 90% of the material so the online training is very simple but ANNOYING! Some of the people in the training are weird and freaky looking.

I absolutely love working there. Its so much fun and I learned so much. The store is always very busy and the pharmacists/technicians/interns are all very friendly and helpful. Another awesome service walgreens offers is that they PAY for your training to get licensed AND you get paid to go to class. My dream has finally come true!! Get paid to go to school!!!!

The only thing I really hate is runnig the insurances and solving stupid TPR!!!

We had this patient the other day. Had a script for 12 pills for viagra but the insurance only covered for 2 so he paid cash for the other 10. God damn he was desperate for some action or something.
