I have no clues what is going on at USC. So far we have only 1 person got accepted and a couple more who have been to the interview. Can somebody tell us whether it is normal or we r not the chosen ones?

Could you share in which stage u r at now?
I am current at the 1st stage that they have accepted my money.

Both UCLA and USC cashed in my checks in early October.
No word yet, I have given up on both, they gobbled my money!

After all this time, I just got a letter from USC asking me to write my SS# on a stupid white form. Thats all I have to write and send it back in. WTF? There is something going on with that school. Hopefully, they take a lot longer, causing the good students to commit to other schools, which will force them to admit lower tier students, like me.

But seriously, whats the point of this paper that I have to send back to them? All they wanted was for me to write my freakin 9 digits?

I think SSN is on AADSAS application. Why do they need it on
a seperate paper?

ec,

I did a whole bunch of research on SDN about USC. The SDN messsages from 2003 suggest USC is just very sluggish. Last year many people interviewed and were accepted in Jan-May. Even the people who intervewed early did not get accepted until later, Feb-March.

The good news is that USC has 144 seats. They WILL interview about 400 people and send abou 300 acceptances to fill the 144. Obviously, they have not nearly sent out that many interviews and acceptances yet.

regarding your question on which stage we are at...I am in the second stage of review..I got the letter about 3 weeks ago. I stopped waiting for USC's interview invite weeks ago. From what Ive heard from current students there, USC's prime time admissions period is jan -feb. Dont worry, it looks like there are a whole bunch of us in the same boat when it comes to USC.

tatadds, what are your stats?

Have you been accepted anywhere?

Hi everyone,

I have a question. I got the letter from USC that states that I have made it to the most critical review portion. Exactly what does this mean? Is this encouraging news? Should I expect an interview invite in the near future?

Please advise!

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

FutrDDS,
yes, thats happy news. Hopefully y'll pass this stage and will be granted an interview.

I was talking to the admission people at USC and found out that they are a GPA school rather than DAT. They ideally want all the applicants to have a 3.0 BCP GPA to be interviewed. and as far as DAT is concerned, they are OK with anything above 15 or 16.

Hi. You are at the interview-invite decision stage. If you pass the stage, you will receive an email to schedule your interview. So, you are in a really good shape.

FutrDDS,
That's good news. You will receive invitation for an interview soon, probably in a week. I had my interview on Nov 21. But I haven't heard anything from them since. Luckily, I have other choices. USC is too damn expensive for me (Yr1: $75,499, Yr2: $76,392, Yr3: $78,129, Yr4: $55,355). Good luck!

It is very nice to hear that many of you competitive applicants have choices OTHER than the schools that i really want to get accepted to.

Comet208,
What interest you about USC? The problem based learning? Or its reputation? But the cost of attending is huge, as someone points out.

thanks everyone for the good news; when I received the letter, I was ecstatic so I can't imagine what will happen if I get an interview, or better yet, if I get accepted??!!??

thus far, the potential cost of education has not hit me-- perhaps I am too excited at this stage. The numbers do seem pretty hefty; I figure, with all those students that go there and manage, somehow, I will too...

ec,

As a MA resident, my options are limited to mostly private school. I do find the PBL , reputation and the location attractive but above all, i want to be a dentist. Considering the cost of other private schools, USC seems a bit higher, but not by too much for a dentist and as FutrDDS pointed out, if others have been able to pay off the debt, we will to (most dentists pay off their studens loand within 5 years of graduation).

If we look closely at USC's tuition only, it is around $49,500/year. Comparing to other east coast schools, like Tufts, Cloumbia, Boston, NYU, Harvard, UPenn, and etc, they are different within three thousand dollars. The biggest factor making them different is the living cost.
So, if your final decision falls among above schools, I think choosing the school you feel comfortable or you will be happy is more important than considering the several thousand difference.

I second that, Grettlin.
