Wanted to ask on this forum-I'm not an MD, but have a clinical degree from an allied health profession. I decided to go to public health school after and am considering a doctorate in epidemiology to do clinical epi work. But I wanted to hear from anybody who took this pathway from the medical route because that seems relatively parallel to what I want to do. Why did you chose the phD, what aspect of it do you use in your career and how? In all honesty, some part of me has even toyed around with the idea of going into medical school because I did work in a clinical setting and greatly enjoyed it because I love the constant learning aspect of it all, but the greatest anxiety I personally have is the talking to/dealing with patients and malpractice. I have friends/family members in medical school and I always enjoy sitting with them to help them study, I enjoyed going to grand rounds when I was once in a hospital clinic and learning disease pathology from the attending, but I feel that a lot of medicine of course is talking to and communicating with patients and being in charge. I figured epi would be a good course since you can study risk factors, biomarkers, etc. but at the same time, it sometimes feels like tunnel vision and I don't know if anybody gets into that feeling of futility (whereas in medical practice, quick changes create results). Feel free to PM me if you'd like.
