I know it is probably different for every school, but I've noticed a lot of schools have notified me that they screen before they send secondaries. Does anybody know how rigourous these screens are? Are they just making sure your MCAT is above 25 and your GPA is above a 3.0? Any specifics would be helpful too. If a school screens and sends a secondary, are they seriously considering interviewing?

If this has been covered before, I'm sorry, I couldn't find the thread. Also, I realize that this information is probably not available, thought it was worth asking.

it varies. some screen purely based off of numbers (e.g. hofstra), UCs screen more holistically (well some do, some aren't transparent). it really varies and you cant tell for sure.

You have a 3.6/3.6/31 you should have no problem making past that first initial computer screening

You have any idea what any schools secondary to interview ratio is?

it varies a ton. some schools send most of those with secondaries invites, some take like 5%.

Well I hope the five percenters are the ones that sent me secondaries. Also, just saw you got an II, congrats! I've submitted all the secondaries I've received so far but I'm still waiting on a LOR, wish me luck!

You have that backwards. You would want secondaries from schools that interview a large percentage of people who receive secondaries.

I read it wrong, I thought he meant that they send secondaries to 5% of people, but looking back, I can easily see that he meant they send II to 5% of people. My bad!

neither my MCAT scores nor my LOR are uploaded yet and I have received almost a half dozen secondaries one day after verification so I am guessing some schools send out a very large portion of secondaries to applicants

Very few schools screen their secondaries. How each individual institution does it so the important things they look for obviously vary. However, it is likely some combination of numbers (heavily weighted) and activities (less heavily weighted). There really is no way to say, though.

I was under the impression that many schools will automatically send secondaries to everyone who applies. They are more than happy to take your donation in the form of the secondary fee.

This is indeed what the overwhelming majority do.

Well I know cooper, vcu, Virginia tech and Nebraska do. Those are the ones where they've returned secondaries to me. Also I'm pretty sure the UCs do too.
