I'm wondering if anyone here uses, or is on this site. I'm not quite sure if it's what I want, so before I put down $$$....

-Is there any way to 'look around' first?
-Are postings seen by programs?
-Do you specify your program by name or just geographical area?
-Does this really work? Has anyone every had it work for them, PDs on board, etc?

I'm completing PGY-1 and set to move across the country for PGY-2 (mod competitive residency). I'm wondering if there would be any chance I could stay where I am..feel free to PM w/info also..Thanks!

Anything is possible, but most of the open spots on sites like Findaresident and openspots are in things like family practice, psych and IM. Occasionally there are peds, neuro or categorical surgery spots or anesthesiology on there. It's pretty hit or miss, though. I know someone who used the site to look for upper level surgical positions after doing surgery prelim...she found some that she ended up interviewing for, but ultimately switched to anesthesia. If it's that important to you not to move, you could pay the money to sign up and just see what is on there. I think for openspots/residentswap you can troll the site and see how many open positions there have been in a particular specialty, but not where/the details until you sign up?
