I start school in less than a month, and unfortunately my beloved macbook pro has expired after 5 years of abuse. I am considering buying another but at $1100 I have been looking at other options. The Chromebook seems strangely perfect and imperfect. I was wondering if anyone has used it and whether or not there were any major issues. With med schools all having wifi, I am not really concerned about not being able to connect (for those who don't know, chromebooks use chrome OS, and essentially require a connection to even be used as all the applications are browser-based). I also was wondering if there were any compatibility issues with powerpoint/word and mediasite. Thanks!

It is not worth the hassle, get a macbook or a windows based pc

Agree. I have used one extensively, and they're great - toys that are awesome to use when flying back and forth across the country. If nothing else, if your school requires that you take exams on your laptop - well, you'll be out of luck.

Say I need to type an H&P for a patient. Is this something I can safely do on a Chromebook and store the document temporarily offline and not be forced to save it in "the cloud"?

Just get a normal laptop. If you're like most med students, you're going to be spending a lot of time in front of a computer screen. Better to invest in a good laptop upfront.
