My undergrad school has a committee that basically requires you to get 5 letters of rec and an autobiography.. they then interview you and write their own letter and include some of the ones you submitted to them.. they then send it all out to the schools you applied to.. my question is, would it look bad if I don't use them?? I was thinking of just getting three letters and sending them out myself. Has anybody done this (ones who have the committee at their school)?

It depends on the school you are applying TO and the undergraduate school you are coming FROM.

I went to BYU and if people apply to AZ from BYU and don't go through Committee, the Admissions committee is skeptical.

If you don't go through committee and your undergrad school committee has a good reputation you had better be prepared to tell them why you decided not to go through committee. Even if they don't ask...you might want to tell them during your interview.

Why not go through committee? It gives you good practice for the d-school admissions process and the committee will organize all your letters for you, etc. Plus, if you use the committee you won't have any explaining to do.
