anything would help.. thanks!

Hi pharMchiCK & anyone else working at Kaiser,
I am interested in applying for an open position as a pharmacy assistant at my local Kaiser in order to gain experience before pharmacy school. Here are my questions:
1) Are applications only via their kaiserpermanentejobs.org website, or do they do any in person? What worked for you?
2) Where is the typing test performed? (on-site or at the regional recruting office?)
3) The job is entry-level with little or no educational requirements. My future boss would probably be a pharmacy technician possibly with only a HS degree. Would my having a BS kill my chances for the job?
Thank you so much for your help!

What's the difference between a pharm. tech and a pharm assistant?? Does a pharm. assistant get paid?

hey... well... i actually got the job as a pharmacy assistant.

And yea, you CAN apply online through kp.org but i find that way useless because you don't know how often or if they even do look at application filled out online.

I would suggest going to HUMAN RESOURCES at Kaiser, ask if a position is available, and ask to fill out a HARD COPY application. This is also the time you'd take your typing test. Its pretty easy. When I took my typing test, its basically sitting down at a computer in a small room, and you'll have a practice run through an "essay". You can basically practice as many times as you want, and when you are ready, you CHOOSE when you want the computer to time you and stuff. You still use the same essay you were practicing on, i think. After that, you're results are printed with the receptionist and she'll tell you if you passed or not. If you pass, you're basically good for ONE year.

As for me, I actually had "connections". My boyfriend's aunt actually knew the manager and so she told her about me, and I actually had an informal interview, pretty laid back and everything.

That was totally a DIFFERENT experience than what I had experienced before. The last time I had an interview at kaiser for a pharmacy assistant, it was a group interview. and for me, that wasn't my thing. In addition, kasier really looks for someone with an unlimited available because you never know which shift you might get. But you can still try.

But from my experience, it really helps trying to find someone who know the pharmacy manager because after I had talked to the manager, she had told me that they don't really do that kind of procedure interview (i'm guessing she was referring to the group interview)... and when I went to human resources, they gave me such a hard time because they figured that since I didn't live in the same city, the recruiter wouldn't choose me. They wouldn't even let me fill out an application but I did anyways, because YOU JUST NEVER KNOW.

So give it a chance and go to human resources.

As for the pay, it is a "good paying" job i guess. I don't know exactly how much a make since I just started my first day, but hey.. any money is good enough me, especially since I haven't had any experience.

hope that helped.

feel free to ask me more questions 🙂

can any pharmacy assistant offer any advice on how to get used to the computer system and answers to common questions from patients?
