Hey~
I was wondering whether anyone has applied MD/PhD to UIC. If so, what was the process like? let me explain my situation. I marked UIC as MD PHD on my AMCAS. I recieved the MD secondary, and the PHD secondary. I went ahead and filled out the MD one, but did not do the PhD one. I recieved an interview there and attended that, and I loved the school. Now that I do know I am interested, I want to fill out the Phd Portion. I know that you must be accepted into MD before being considered for MD PHD, so do you guys think it is too late to apply for the PhD part now?

ANYONE?

Thanks

It is too late to apply to the MSTP for the fall. The MD and MD/PhD admissions are seperate, meaning that while I believe that your application has to be approved by the MD committee to get accepted, there is a separate interview and decision process for MD and MD/PhD. The MD/PhD interview takes place over two days and is VERY research focused (and also funded 🙂 they pay for travel and hotel, and take you out to dinner), and if you want to be considered MD only you have to schedule a separate interview with the medical school while you are there. I'm pretty sure that the last interview for the MSTP program is this coming weekend, so I imagine it would be too late to get yourself in (getting invited for interviews can be fairly competitive). If you're set on the MD/PhD you could contact the office and get their policy on internal applicants, you may be able to join the program after the first year. Of course, than means you'd have to pay UIC tuition for the first year, which is quite a bit if your OOS.

The MSTP program coordinator's name is Roberta, and she is just about the nicest and most helpful person that I have spoken to during this process. I'm sure she would be happy to help you.
