Anyone applying as a 3rd year?

Title says it all. I feel that I am ready to apply this cycle, however, from all the time I've been on sdn, I'm starting to lose confidence that it can be done as I've rarely seen anyone apply sooner than their senior year of college. Is anyone else in the same boat as me applying as a 3rd year????

Do you have the requirements? Most schools prefer a bachelor's and require enough hours to have one...if you have all the requirements though go for it. It'd be very weird to not have your bachelors though

As in applying after your junior year (3rd year?) to start the fall after your senior year, as opposed to taking a gap year? Then yes, I think there are a lot of us on here!

I mean... if you're applying to start the fall after your senior year... isn't that a traditional applicant (vs. nontrad)...

Sorry guys, let me clarify. Yes I would get a bachelors, but I would not take a gap year before medical school if that makes sense

To my understanding, the number of people who take a gap year(s) before med school and are nontrads is growing but the "traditional applicant" is still one directly from undergrad to med school and probably the majority**

You can absolutely apply at the end of your 3rd year, but you essentially promise the school you will finish your requirements and degree before you matriculate. This is the traditional route to take. It is becoming more and more common to take gaps years however. If you feel ready with a strong app, go for it!

I applied my junior year as your quintessential trad student (much to the chagrin of my med school adviser) and have experienced some, if not overwhelming, success this cycle- lmk if you have concerns!

At my interviews maybe 10/100 of us were still in school. It’s hard to be competitive when you’re so young, having all the hours and ECs and life experiences takes a lot. And some don’t apply while still in undergrad for financial reasons. But you are definitely not the only traditional applicant hahaa. I didn’t use SDN until interview season began.
