Anyone applying Peds/EM?

Curious: Is anyone here applying to one of the two combined Peds/EM residencies? Have you heard from the programs as to how many apps they get?

Yup, and they only take 2 each! Makes you feel really good about matching! I may apply anyway though...

Yeah it seems daunting, but considering I'm the only person here who's actually applied, maybe the pool of applicants for these programs isn't very big???

Really! I haven't heard of anyone over on the EM forum talking about EM/Peds too, so maybe you're right, the applicant pool really isn't that large.


Do you (or anyone else) happen to know if one does the EM/Peds residency thing, are you eligible for Peds EM boarding too? I know you're eligible for the obvious Peds and EM, just wondered if you have to do the fellowship thing after EM to be boarded in Peds EM?!??!?!

There is an attending who works in my ED who went to one of these programs. She works in the adult ED 1/3 of the time and the peds ED 2/3. She told me she is board cert in both general peds and in EM, but is not eligible to cert in Peds EM.

Yup, I have heard the same thing- You cannot get board certified in Peds EM through the combined residency route. I also heard this can create a problem when trying to get a job in a Peds ED at a more academic type center.
