I don't know what part of the country you're in but I just had an interview this past week at SUNY Downstate and have another this week at LIU

I have interviews at LSU New Orleans and LSU Shreveport. This is my first time to apply and I really don't know what to expect.

Had an Interview at College of Staten Island , Graduate Center and got accepted there...

Dont fret the interview just be yourself and make sure you're doing this for the right reasons!! Be confident, not COCKY!!!!

Congratulations on your acceptance at College of Staten Island! Cocky is something that I am definitely NOT! I've been a PTA for a very long time and I am hoping that will help. How long did you have to wait before you were notified of your acceptance? Did they tell you the day of the interview or send you a letter later? Sorry to ask so many questions. I wish you the best of luck in PT school. 🙂

Thank you, thank you... I was notified of the acceptance about a week later, their semester starts at the end of January so thats why the quick notice, they sent me an email and then I got an official letter in the mail. Really bummed their semester starts so quickly bc I I have to make the decision very soon and I would've liked to go on some other interviews of better schools but I guess Ill take what I can plus it is very cheap!
Good luck with everything!!!

Feel free to ask any questions!!

How many schools did you apply to? Did they ask you any really odd questions during your interviews or were the questions pretty straight forward? It has been an extremely long time since I did the interview for PTA school, but I realize that it would also be very different. I work with several PTs and they said they would help me with potential interview questions, but I'm still pretty nervous about it. :scared: Do you feel like you are being interrogated yet?? 😉

Been out of town, but just got home and received my interview letter for LSU Shreveport.

Cool! Congratulations. Is your interview Jan. 8th? Did you apply to LSU N.O., also?

Thanks! Congratulations to you, too. My interview is Jan 9th. I didn't apply to N.O. - I don't want to move.

Thanks. My interview in Shreveport is Jan. 8th. I applied to both, but am closer to N.O.. It would be a long drive (about 50-60 miles), but I could still do that and not have to move. I would have to move to Shreveport, but I didn't want to limit myself to just NO because I am old as dirt and I want to try and get finished with school as soon as possible! I am contemplating applying to a couple TX schools, but I really don't want to move out of state adn pay out of state tuition. If I don't get accepted to NO or Shreveport, I'm sure I'll regret not applying to more. Do you know when they started doing interviews? I got my application stuff in at the very last minute-had it sent FedEx to arrive on the deadline date! I was wondering if they have already accepted some people and if there are limited spaces left.

Thanks in advance!!

Hm, no I do not know when they start doing interviews. I sent my application in way early (end of September) since I was finishing up my master's - didn't want to be trying to get it in in the middle of the semester.

When I went to the info meeting they said they do the interviews in January, so I don't think anyone has interviewed and/or been accepted yet.

I, too, am ready to be done with school. I probably should have applied to other schools, but if I have no interest in relocating (and therefore no interest in them) then I am just adding more competition for the other people applying who really do want to go to those schools. If I don't get in here, I have other plans for next year and I will apply again for 2009.

Good luck!

Thanks for passing along the information you received at the info meeting. I didn't get to attend, so I had no idea if they were already doing interviews or what. That is good that they haven't started them yet. I have one more semester to finish with the Bach. degree. I don't know yet what I will do if I don't get accepted. I don't know if I'll reapply for 2009 or just stay a PTA. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it! You never know, we may end up being classmates!!

Good luck with your interview!!

Hey New Yorkers --
I had an interview at LIU last week and have interviews at NYU and Stony Brook coming up. Where else did you guys apply...and have you heard back from LIU yet?

Also, have you been asked any crazy interview questions?

Thanks

I applied to Downstate, CSI, Buffalo, Upstate Health Center... Heard LIU is a horrible school plus its way too overpriced... the interview was pretty straight forward right out of the book.
Questions like why do you want to go to this school, who was your biggest influence, and a strength, weakness question... really hoped for some crazy questions actually, it was kinda boring

nyc2bDPT -- can you tell me what you've heard about LIU? I'm also interviewing at the moment for DPT starting 2008, and it was one of my schools (also Downstate, Hunter, NYU) -- I'm trying to get as much info before making my decisions -- thank you!!!

Hi All,
Seems like all of you guys are all east coast? Anyway, I actually just got a call about an hour ago for an interview at University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. I'm pretty excited, but also nervous since this is probably my first choice. Does anyone have a good list of questions to run through for PT interviews?? Any help would be great! Good luck to all of you!
Joey

Just got two interview requests as well...NY Institute of Technology and Columbia =] NYIT is next Thursday, Columbia's is on Feb 15.

Still waiting on the two West Coast schools I applied to, University of Washington and the University of Puget Sound 😉

Good luck everyone!

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone applied to Cal State Long Beach and/or Cal State Northridge, and if they do interviews or not. Also I applied to Upstate SUNY (New York) , and wonder if anyone has feedback on how hard they are to get in. The 2 Cal States only have MPT program, Upstate SUNY is a DPT program. Thanks for any feedback.

I applied to SB and had an interview - haven't heard from them yet.

Anyone considering LIU? Any thoughts on the school?

I just know that LIU and CW post are really ridiculous with their tuition...What the heck is up with Stony Brook? Anyone know if they are still conducting interviews?

The buzz I hear is that Stony Brook interviews are over. I could be wrong...

myr11: Have you been accepted anywhere?

I only applied to Stony Brook. I was going to apply to the University of Miami but I considered that option past it's deadline...I didn't know how affordable it is and didn't think of even looking to applying there. I didn't apply anywhere else because Stony Brook was where I wanted to go. I don't see the point in going to an out of state school or private school with the tuition they charge for a PT degree. Stony Brook seems like the best state school in NY and maybe in most of the country. My stats were good, I applied on time, had a good overall application, and I should be given an interview.

This is what I know, taken from an e-mail.

"All qualified applicants who meet our minimum pre-requisite requirements will be considered for admissions interviews. Admissions interview appointments are now being scheduled for Friday, February 1 and Saturday, February 16.

Please note that although an application is received electronically, it is not reviewed by our admissions committee until transcripts, gre scores, references, and volunteer hours are received. The deadline for receipt of all PT applications is January 31, 2008."

There were about 3 interview sessions for SBU. One on Feb 1st and 2 on Feb 16th.

I have applied to Stony Brook and when I call I was told that my application is still being reviewed, however I just recently completed the whole application since I just took the GRE recently, but I submitted it in December. What can I expect in the interview and do you have any more information about the program?

When did you take your GRE's? You wrote the above in late Feb. I'm under the impression that GRE's had to be taken and scores sent in before Jan 31st in order to be reviewed. I mention it because I feel that your grades stack up very similar to mine.

As for SBU, specifically, these are the numbers told to the people being interviewed.

180+ students applied
85 students made it to the interview process
33 open seats

In case anyone is still going to interviews, here are some questions I was asked, so hopefully they'll come in useful to someone 🙂 I interviewed at both Columbia University (trying to work out what I think is a mix-up with them at the moment) and NY Institute of Technology (accepted).

1) What was your biggest accomplishment?
2) Why PT? (obviously)
3) What made you decide on PT, rather than pharmacy or medicine? (I had mentioned I applied to pharmacy school prior, and had considered medicine in the past)
4) How do you deal with stress/time management?
5) How do you deal with criticism?
6) What do you think makes you stand out from all the other applicants?

And Columbia asked me some additional questions about the two Cs in my application, and that was pretty much it.

Good luck to all who are still going to interviews and congratulations to everyone that was accepted into a DPT program!
