It seems like they just pick a random letter in a word and try to associate it with something. I feel that they are useless...does anyone else get annoyed with this?

fiRst aid = Ridiculous

I had to white out their p450 mnemonics because I was so tired of looking at them.

I agree that the mnemonics can bother, but they do stick in my head. Sometimes it just takes a random association to help keep concepts straight. They stick in my head more now after 2nd year than they did when I glanced at them during the year.

I probably only use about 1/2 of them but they do have some good ones.

amen to that. the worst one by far is the diso's pyramid crap about class Ia anti-arrythmics. seriously? who the eff is diso? and if it is someone....it doesnt help me.

this thread is now about your favorite FA mnemonics

its not HIPP to have lupus!
infliximab INFLIX pain on TNF <-- no idea why i remember this one but it stuck

The only one that's really worked for me so far is the one for G-protein 2nd messengers in the Pharm chapter:

HAVe 1 M&M = Gq pathway
MAD 2's = Gi pathway
Everything else = Gs pathway.

Basically all you have to do is memorize the adrenergics and you've got the rest covered.

But yeah, the rest of the First Aid mnemonics are just awful. I think the person who wrote them is intentionally trying to get fired from the staff.

I like this one better (since it also follows the First Aid page exactly).
Kiss and Kick till you're Sick of Sex
"QISS QIQ SIQ SQS"
A1, A2, B1, B2, M1, M2, M3, D1, D2, H1, H2, V1, V2

All the other mnemonics you'll ever want.

I like "Neutrophils Like Making Everything Better" for a CBC.

"You need butane in your veins to murder for a map of alcatraz."

What an awesome mnemonic for remembering all the "other antidepressants", which have SO much in common (outside of pesky little things like intended use, MOA, and side effects).

"Californians Like Girls in String Bikinis" for the layers of the epidermis is my new favorite!

Well, yesterday I was going over hematology and came across a pretty particular/specific detail about Vitamin K. I wanted to double check with First Aid on it (Biochem section), and here's what they had to say:

K for Koagulation.

Boy, after this fine gem of a mnemonic, there's no way I'll ever have any problems remembering all the important stuff about Vitamin K. I had no idea that the writers of First Aid also worked for Sesame Street.

Actually, I think the REASON it is called vitamin K is for the word "Koagulation" in a different language:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_K

FA FTW !!!!!!

By the way, todays letter was "I", as in I just INFLIXED pain on you like INFLIXIMAB does on TNF !!

LOL, j/k

I'll believe First Aid before I believe anything that is found on Wikipedia.

This match ends in a draw.
