Anyone else still waiting for LOR to be sent?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
my professor who i asked last january...is currently working on it....ahhhhhh so annoying... im just turning in secondaries and hopefully turn in LORs soon

Yes. My last letter was purportedly mailed today to the premed office. If it was mailed today, it won't arrive before Monday, where it'll take a couple of days to process, then a couple of days before they'll actually mail out my packet of letters, and then arrival time, and then processing time ..... argh!

Do you think we are at a major disadvantage? I'm about ready to wage war on my committee...my letters were in mid-March!

not major, but slight disadvantage....theres lots of applicants not even done with their primaries....

I wonder if they take when your secondary arrived into consideration later when the letters arrive. It is all just remarkably unfair-so out of my control!

I'm trying not to worry about it. Tons of people haven't finished their secondaries.

theres no point in worrying whats beyond your control.....just keep finishing those secondaries....and for those who are done....enjoy yourself 🙂

yeah...my letters were ready to send out last week, the pre-med office thought it would be ok to wait until after the hurricane. Well, yesterday the school was supposed to be open but due to hurricane devastation, school will not be open until monday. This sucks.

I'm with you all, I have my meeting with the pre-med comm. on Friday, and hopefully after that they'll be on their way! ::crosses fingers::

I meet with my advisor on tuesday. If my letter isn't out yet, he is getting a pencil in the forehead.

the woman who runs our letter office is still sitting on my letters...hopefully they'll get sent sometime in the next week...or two...

My deadline for the early decision program is in four days and one of my four LOR writers hasn't submitted yet 😱

I have been on her like white on rice on a paper plate in a snow storm, but she doesn't seem to get the fact that she is ****ING WITH MY FUTURE!

[/rant]

After my pre-med office screwed up my letters 3 times, i think everything will be sent out early next week...which is 4 weeks later than it should have been. I'm just happy that the ordeal is over with and i can take a little bit of a respite from this insane process.

bump - update!

All of my application materials are due TODAY.

I finally got my final LOR writer on the phone after numerous attempts at contacting her and she said nonchalantly that she would get it in later this week. I reminded her that the deadline was today and she said "oh, they will accept it when they get it..."

Wow, thanks a lot for your concern. I don't believe she will be getting a thank you letter even if I get in. Well, on second thought, she is a prof. in the med school so I guess I better.

Sucks to be me 👎 :scared: 🙁

It's going allright. Two interviews so far at schools I really like. All my stuff is in, so now it's just the waiting game. I hope things work out ED at MN, make sure you tell us when you know for sure 🙂

yeah i have one prof who seems to be sitting on hers..all my others are in..she said she was sending it either the 19th or 20th of August b/c b4 then she was out of the country. so i sent her a thank you note the wknd of aug 21st..but now i still don't see them as being received by any of my schools so i know they're waiting on it..damn damn damn 😡

I had all my secondary applications done like a month and a half ago. I missed the deadline for CU's committee letter, so I'm going with individuals who I asked back in the spring. Apparently, those folks are just sending my letters out, so my files aren't open anywhere! RRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! 😡

As far as committee letters go, I've heard a rumor that they are slow to go out all over the country. Apparently, there was some big hold up with AMCAS or something, and committees everywhere are slow. Anyone else heard that?

It might have to do with their switching to electronic submission. It is a new system.

I am in the same position-- all of my files are waiting on one nonchalant individual who says he'll get to it when he gets to it!!! It sucks having my world fu@%ed with by an outside party.

😡

RRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I was just getting all excited, I thought all of my LORs were on their way, when today I get an email saying "Oh and when you drop by all the prestamped preaddressed envelopes I'll be happy to send out your letter."

Couldn't he have mentioned that when I asked him if he wanted envelopes?!? When someone asks you a question, aren't you supposed to answer?

Thanks for the vent.

Diana

aw, that sucks Diana 🙁

Mine finally mailed out today. *deep sigh of relief*

Is it common practice to reimburse a LOR writer for their expenses? 😕

That's what I've experienced. It makes it easier on their part. One of my letter writers (the director of a volunteer program I did) wanted a whole package of things before she wrote my letter. I sent in the packet of stuff to her in mid july ('cuz they frickin' wanted a copy of my amcas personal statement) and it is now September and she STILL hasn't gotten to it!!! i've bugged them constantly but it doesn't seem to be getting anywhere. It's SO frustrating because my school sends out LORs as a compliation, and even though all my other letters have been in since August, i'm not complete at any school because i have to wait on that ONE letter before the compilation gets sent out.

on the other hand, this extra time does give me more quality time to work on secondaries, but i'm at the point where i just want to move on to the next step. i can't wait until this app process is over!

😕 waiting waiting waiting.. i have a prof who said he sent out the letter on 8/19, but it is not showing up in my status check for any of my schools. so i called some of the schools to see if the letter was there, but maybe hadn't been scanned in yet...no luck... at this point, (yesterday), i emailed the prof to ask him to re-send all of my letters. only one of my schools says they have received it, so i just asked him and another prof to re-send to all of them..this sucks..it's holding up my 'status complete' emails from several schools. <<biting nails>>

You all have it easy...

Here I am, now four days past the DEADLINE to get all of my letters in and one of my LOR writers still hasn't submitted yet.

If/when someone asks me to write a letter, I'm going to make sure and send it in well ahead of the deadline!

I am ready to rip out my hair!!! My pre-med advisor gave her letter to the commitee last week. However, an additional 4 people have to sign the letter, apparently and they estimated I could expect it to be mailed out late next week. I'm sorry, but I had all my LOR's into my advisor by august 1st. There should not be a 2 freakin' month turn around time on their end. This is unacceptable but i'm scared to say anything more (i have written the "hey, checking in to see when my packet will be ready" emails already) for fear of coming off bad. I'm just ready to scream though.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I even applied last year so they basically just had to stuff some new envelopes. Unfortunately for me I went to college 1000 miles away so the only contact I have is by phone and they must have caller ID because they haven't answered my calls for several weeks. No return calls and no return emails.

just out of curiosity, what schools are u guys from (ones with premedical committee)? my school doesn't have a committe. i thought it'd be better to have one, but i guess not exaclty...? good luck with ur LORs.

I went to Iowa State first, and now I'm at Minnesota doing prereqs. Neither school has a pre-med committee, and I'm glad for that. It sounds like many, many people get caught in the slow-moving gears of the committee mechanism. I was happy to just solicit four letters and be done with it.

On the other hand, I had it somewhat easy in that I was only applying to Minnesota via EDP, which has no restrictions on who can write your recommendations. Plus, no duplication/multiple letters. Also, Minnesota has an electronic option for recommendations, which at least speeds up the delivery time (if not writing time).

Good luck to all!

My pre med committee doesnt send out the letters until after they have received my august MCAT scores(!).

So, not only do I have to wait for my august MCAT scores, but it wont be for another 3 or 4 weeks after that before my file is complete at any school!!!

And to think that I actually bought into the crap that the August MCAT doesn't hinder your application. Hell yes it does!!!

I'm from harvard. We have undergraduate houses (ie dorms) and each house has a separate committee. They have been very helpful except when it comes to getting this darn packet out. My advisor has been quite helpful with my personal statement and other things but having these other folks involved is kind of annoying...ok, more than kind of annoying. I am hoping they will ask us for feedback on the process after we are done with it. Because then I will certainly let them know how hypocritical and negligient they have been (in as nice a way as possible...)

One of my letter writers, who has since moved to Australia, sent me a note in the mail that was possibly the most passive-aggressive missive I've ever gotten. It was all about how much she suffered writing it, what a hardship it was, how it cost her over $100 to do it... Now I'm scared that that reluctance is going to come through in the letter. If it was going to be such a pain, why didn't she say no?

So when I write her my thank you note, where I swallow all my feelings of shock after reading her note, and thank her profusely for helping me on my journey, I guess I'll send her a check to cover those expenses.

Scariest thing is that I'm still waiting to hear from three schools (Harvard, U of Washington, and UCSF) whether or not they want a secondary and LORs. Now I'm afraid to ask her to send another.

Same here. This is bizarre. My prof sent everything, but not 1 of the schools have yet to acknowledge receiving anything.

How can ALL of the schools suddenly have such a slow response. It doesn't make any sense. I figure at least a couple of fast-acting schools would receive it and the rest would show delays. But NONE. HOW.

YEah!!!! finally all my recs are in and sent out, thank god!!

one prof is holding me up!!!!!!!!!!!!! but schools havent been updating me, only a few......and they're all in the same area too.......

I hope its not disadvantageous; it would be unfair since it is not something in our control
